    Amy as a nod to Tifa is definitely in the realm of homage, and I’m guessing intentional. My point here was more about the composition (it’s a slightly modified mirror flip).

    That said, as you point out, this could also be an homage moment. I know mangaka and anime makers see “borrowing” very differently than litigious North American media companies, so I would figure this is that.

    Also, I want to believe Kawamoto-san plays AE.

      ok yea, i think i was grasping at words in my previous post, but i agree. its not just the pose but the uncanny similarity in overall composition (e.g., the way her coat blows in the wind) which looks like an homage. its like when someone draws an overhead view of someone walking up to a motorcycle and if you know the reference, you know it’s an homage (or parody) to Akira.

        Oh man, such a good scene. I mean, Akira was a great movie, incredible manga, and just so so good.
