So ive got a router (G3100) by Verizon in Northern VA. 3 level townhouse. The router is downstairs in the basement.
In one room (top level) , above the router i get 450mb down with 0 connection issues. To a PC. Theres an E3200 up there to boost it.
If i literally walk down the hallway into the next room, it drops down to 0.8mb and the connection constantly drops (PC, AX200 card). My Steam downloads speeds drop down to 8kb/s and at most i get 6mb/s. Its incredibly frustrating.
I understand Wifi gets slower the further you get away, but this amount of drop does not sound normal. Im literally less than 25 feet from the point i get 450 down. Is this normal or is there another potential issue?
Do you have plaster walls?
If your house has lots of metal in the walls, you could be living in a virtual Faraday cage.
