I have some outdoor festoon/string lights plugged into a basic smart plug in an outhouse and I’m able to connect to the smart plug with my phone and turn the lights on and off. However I’d like a switch inside to control it too.
What are my options here? I’d like to avoid a hub if possible because I don’t see myself having other uses for it. I found some that have a plug and a wall switch that connects to it wirelessly but none that can also be controlled via an app.
Thanks
I do something similar but have home assistant setup. If you don’t want to go down the rabbit hole of setting up home assistant, you could look at a Shelly plug along with a Shelly button 1. These should give you app + button control. These are WiFi based and do not require a hub.
Does the outhouse still have wifi coverage?
Yes it’s only 2ft away from the house
Devices on tasmota firmware can link directly to each other using device group without setting up any automation/hub.
Can’t find any shops selling preflashed ones for the switch in UK (online at least)
Budget wise there’s:
-
Localbytes plug
-
Shelly Plus mini
