      They actually do have a choice, three of them in fact:

      1. Kill their own chain of command, from the company up to the field-level batallion commander.

      2. Commit suicide after killing their own Russian fellow soldiers by shooting them in the back.

      3. Surrender to Ukraine forces.

      There were plenty of choices.

      • Fleeing the country
      • Going to jail
      • Desertion
      • Surrender

      There’s a chance of death in all those situations, but I’d rather take those chances any day than taking a similar chance while committing evil. Arguably those chances of death are lower than letting it get to the point where you’re actually in battle.
