Sure, but for people like me who don’t have the time/desire to research individual companies, index funds are the common suggestion. Which brings me to my original comment.

Yeah the more complicated and “gamble-y” it gets the less interested I am.

It’s honestly kept me from investing at all. I know index funds are the way to go, but I can’t in good conscience invest in these evil companies. I’d rather end up living in the street than sell my soul.

It meets their needs and preferences, simple as that. I tried Arch in like 2008, and thought people were crazy for all the trouble it took back then. Nowadays there’s a lot of nice distros built on it, so you can get the benefits (such as they may be) without all the low-level tinkering.
Me personally? To enjoy it. What that means changes as I age, but I get immense pleasure from my relationships (I love hanging out with friends and family), I get a lot of satisfaction from helping others, and making people laugh. I’ve got some hobbies as well, and I like to travel to new places when I can. I try my best to keep my actions aligned with my principles, which leaves me with a generally clear conscience and positive self-image. I could never possibly have all the experiences that might interest me, so I cross my fingers for reincarnation, but otherwise feel I could die without much regret.

OpenSSL?

Check out Yunohost. In my experience it is way easier to setup and manage than docker. I’ve been using it for years and it continues to improve and add more supported software.
My problem is I’m always rocking an old thinkpad, and I don’t want to “waste” any good stickers on something that could break at any moment. Better leave the stickers in a drawer.

Drop it on a cop from a high window.

Kiss my ass.

I was alarmed by this post, but after reading the linked text, I am not worried. I certainly understand the distaste for AI, and I share much of it. However, the approach here seems very sensible and the proof will continue to be in the pudding.

I’m already having trouble accessing it. Shame too, because I was really liking it.

Bill Gates’ PR game is strong, and he has lot of people fooled into thinking he’s a good-guy billionaire. The revelations about his ties to Epstein made a good dent, but I guess a lot of people are too invested in their feelings.
Ah thanks. No, grew up without cable TV, so never saw any nickelodeon. I’ve only heard of gak as a name for cocaine.
What does ‘gak’ mean in this context??
Liberals fundamentally believe in the capitalist system. They would just like to reform it, or regulate it just the right amount. Within the US political spectrum, liberals are cast as “left wing”. Here on Lemmy, many people will encounter (perhaps for the first time) political perspectives that disdain liberals as the moderate wing of fascism. To these perspectives, liberalism is so wedded to capitalism, that it will sooner capitulate to naked fascism than make common cause with any anticapitalist revolutionaries.
