I’m not trying to shit on Palmer here because he’s been playing well, but all it takes for him are like 5 good performances to get in and meanwhile James Ward-Prowse is still not part of this team.

Congrats to Konsa btw, really happy for him.

fucking hell villa fans are the absolute nitpickers in chief for the england team, whichever mediocre player you have isn’t picked you complain, and now your pick of the month has been chosen you’re still complaining!

But JWP has had a few call ups and clearly isn’t offering what the manager wants.

Trying to gel together a squad isn’t easy but people seem to want the 23 most inform players in reach call up.

The fanfare is a bit much at the moment. All his goals have come from Pen’s and his assists were in 4-1 thrashings to Burnley and 9 man Spurs. The eye test tells you he’s a good player of course but people might be getting ahead of themselves.

That being said, JWP plays a different position/role which he’s competing with Henderson, Gallagher, Bellingham, and Trent; he’s a set piece specialist but outside of that he isn’t ahead of any of those apart from Henderson who plays in Saudi Pro League now but is one of Southgate’s favourites.

      I’d say he’s more in bowens position….

……who has been the clear 2nd best RW after saka for 3 years and has only been called up 3(?) times that entire time

Monthly reminder that you guys still have TAA, one of the best players in the world still sitting on the bench and that you guys are not even complaining about it.

We complain all the time, lots of people want to see him in a midfield of himself, Rice, and Bellingham

We don’t complain because trippier and walker are clearly better for England, in a fair world he’s in way less england Sqauds because we don’t need 3 right backs we just feel the need to include him and put him in midfield or something

Picking players on reputation rather than whether or not they’d suit our team is what we’d done wrong in the past. Walker and James are better right backs for our system so they’ll get picked.

Where do you play him? I’m all for having him start, he’s a brilliant player, but he isn’t a perfect fit for the way Southgate sets up, especially against good teams. He plays RB for Liverpool but Trippier and Walker are better defensively, which Southgate covets. He can and probably should be in midfield against lower ranked opposition but against a France or Argentina, you probably want someone better positionally and off the ball.

He’s young though and when Walker and Trippier decline over the next couple years he can probably try and cement himself a starting place against the oft-injured Reece James, unless Livramento or someone else explodes into the team

Maguire’s been great recently, he should absolutely be in the England squad.

Not really. Maguire’s massive issue previously was his bad form, but when he’s on it he’s a top player. It’s very unfortunate there’s a narrative surrounding him that he’s an utter joke.

Don’t get me wrong, was miles off it for 2 years but he’s about back to his best now. I’d say he’s arguably been United’s best player this season.

I know Curtis Jones is currently injured, but do people think he’ll ever be given a chance? He’s been our second best midfielder so far this season

He kind of fulfils that Henderson role well for youse. I think if it weren’t for injury he’d defo be in this squad. Might just be a bit too late though for him to be in the Euros now, time shall tell.

He will do, yeah. Seems like Southgate wants to stick with a core squad going into the Euros so unless there’s a big injury or he racks up some unbelievable numbers before the end of the season it won’t be until the 2026 WC cycle.

Yes, possible based on ability alone. However, it’s Southgate so you never know.

If Bellingham’s just going to hang out with the group and do some very light training, then fine, but I don’t see any merit to playing him while he’s injured/recovering, even if he personally wants to play - England are already qualified and virtually certain to top the group, and there’s no sense risking exacerbating an injury given how important he’s going to be in the summer.

So Bellingham is taking a slot someone else could take, despite him not being able to play for at least 2 weeks.
