I bought this plant at a flea market this weekend in Central Virginia, USA. I’m not sure what it is, however, and I want to make sure to take proper care of it. I was hoping you all could help. Thanks so much!
I’m no expert, but that looks like it could be a Canna lily, probably just called arrowroot locally:https://media.sciencephoto.com/image/b7400814/800wm/B7400814-Canna_lily_leaves_Canna_x_generalis_.jpg
There’s more info here: https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/canna/
And good 'ol wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canna_(plant)
Looks like a hosta to me. If so, they grow in clusters that can be dug up and split to make many more to spread them around your garden. They can grow quite large, 3-4 feet across. This looks like the product of a split.
I’ve never seen a hosta with a stalk that high - the leaves are usually closer to the base, no?
When we split ours, since the grouping was so large, it took a while to spread back out and they looked like this for a bit.
Interesting… That may be in my future:
