I mean the entire first choice defence isnt there. Granted, some mistakes were terrible but with better protection comes confidence as well.

He definitely had a lot of dodgy moments but it’s too early to right him off… He just needs to keep quiet and do his job instead of doing every other matchday interviews

It was really funny to see him shouting at Maguire in preseason and then make so many mistakes

People on here are so hung up on that Maguire thing in pre-season, it’s so weird. Both players said there’s no issue and I’d expect my keeper to be demonstrative after a defensive howler.

The Maguire thing is absolutely fucking ridiculous. How anything was made of that is crazy.

One of the things I’ve appreciated about Vicario is he’s been hung out to dry a few times by our defense and he’s made the save and then just got up and cheered himself and got pumped. I’ve never really seen a keeper react that way regularly when he’s been left in a bad spot

I feel like their issue is that they have no actually cohesive tactic when it comes to playing out from the back.

Their defenders seem to have no clue about pressing triggers; committing the man not, the ball and general speed.

Their tactic seems to be to receive the ball from Onana, then knock it about at the back for a bit, get pressed, go back to Onana and keep doing that over and over again until they end up lumping it long and conceding possession.

Onana isn’t the problem, at least in terms of playing out from the back. ten Hag has utterly failed to teach them an actual playing-out-from-the-back strategy worth learning.

In terms of actual goalkeeping, he’s far too suspect, especially in one-on-ones.

All true, how we take the ball off him is an issue in building up. But i think even with the lack of press resisting knowledge when playing out, that ain’t what is getting Onana in hot water, it’s your other point which is basic goalkeeping.

      • should’ve given away a pen vs Wolves which likely would’ve cost us 2 points

      • Terrible for Forest’s 2nd goal, just falls over

      • Howler for Bayern’s 1st goal

      • Brentford’s goal goes straight through him

      • Arguably could’ve done better with Zaha’s goal

And then the hospital pass to Casemiro for Galatasaray’s penalty which put us down to 10 men and effectively cost us the game. Lots of other keepers do shit like this in times during the season, but for the good GKs they’re rare mistakes.

They just don’t have a midfielder apart from eriksen who can receive the ball in tight zone from defenders and progress the ball that’s why defenders either go for a straight up hoofball Or go back to onana

After being vaunted as a coach that wants to play slick possession football, it was very red flaggy when Ten Hag gave that interview in pre season saying he wants Man united to be ‘the best transition team’ in the league/(world?). He seems confused himself about what he wants to do.

You’ve also got to consider the fact that we haven’t had our first choice defence available yet this season. Martinez for example is a great ball playing CB but has been unfit or injured since the start of the season, no Shaw had also been a big problem in this regards.

Bingo. Onana would look a lot more assured at the back if the build-up structure was a lot more stable. Conversely, someone like Diogo Costa or Raya would probably look a lot more unsettled.

Having their first choice defenders pick up injuries hasn’t helped either, along with Casemiro losing form and Amrabat being forced to left-back (although I think him inverting is actually a good idea).

Not sure I would even call him a keeper. Giroud looks more impressive in the net than this megadonk.

I think there should have been a transitory period with de gea and onana on, but probably didn’t have the money to spare. a famously broke club

Case’s form took a nose dive towards the end of last season - you could make a compilation out of his hopeless lunge tackles because he’s 5 seconds behind the game.

Tifo’s classic recipe of clickbait masquerading as ‘serious analysis’. Surprised more people haven’t caught onto their shtick yet even though I do like some of their presenters.

Ten Hag using his knowledge of erdevisie players’ skills which worked against erdevise clubs whose names I cant remember, to bring those players to ManU to play against premier league teams with the same strategy seems to be current season’s problem. Just my thinking.

He did the same thing at Ajax where he brought in a bunch of players from his former club(s) or whom he knows from the league. The only positive stand out was Haller in the end.

No club should realistically involve this man with scouting.
