The string doesn’t want to do anything, it’s a fucking string. The force of gravity is acting on the string but it’s not collapsing due to the tension from the springy plastic strips.
It looks cool but this isn’t magic, geez.

Yeah, sorry, this wasn’t the place to pick this apart, I realize later. I’m sensitive because there is this guy on YouTube I watched for a while who would do experiments in his kitchen and he would try to scientifically “explain” stuff JUST like this (the magnet wants to be with the metal, the ball wants to fall down, blah blah) and it made me super angry and sensitive to this kind of phrasing. Sorry! There’s a time and a place to be pedantic and this wasn’t it! 😑
