I took a 10 hour flight to fly 3 hours. Thinking that flight attendants aren’t paid while not in the air is unbelievable. Once the boarding process starts, so should the pay clock.

Frankly once they arrive at their home airport and clock in they should be on the clock… other hourly people get paid when they have on-call and can’t do their own thing, or if there’s a business trip, so why shouldn’t they? The only exception I would see would be a stay over somewhere but again, they’d be clocking out when they left the airport.

They get paid for on-call as well as overnight stays but it’s a pittance. I totally agree that as soon as they show up they need to be paid.

They should be getting paid from the moment they arrive at the airport and start setting things up. Prep work should NEVER be uncompensated. If I am at a location for work then I am at work and expect to be paid.

With all of these western industries threatening strike, maybe it’s time for a general strike? The world is getting out of hand because of a few evil people. It’s time to change that.

If we do, one of two things will happen:

      • We get liveable wages 🤣
      • they finally show that we are a nation of slaves (FYI the railway workers have already found this out)

The nature of their strike seems unclear but it would be appropriate to not do any work until the doors open on the plane and then cease working once they are open. The current time periods for which they are not paid.

Flight attendants need to check in well before the flight too. They often have off-plane uniform requirements (women have to wear heels but flats on the plane for example). They aren’t paid for this time either. Often , training time is unpaid.
