    I’ve noticed that if someone swallows, they’re not sleeping.

    Your body minimizes production of saliva while you’re sleeping so you don’t choke on your own spit while you’re out. Even if their body doesn’t slow down saliva production for some reason, they’ll usually just drool in their sleep, rather than swallow. So if someone has to swallow, they’re likely still awake and just pretending/attempting to sleep.
