Opinion: Personally I’m not too into the pickup segment let alone an electric Santa Cruz but hey, something new! We’ll see how it shakes out.
Every EV tryin’ to be under $50k and above 300 mile range. Good fuckin’ luck, I’m getting tired of these promises.
I mean, it’s a target. You’re not going to hit it if you don’t try.
It’s CEO fluff to inflate an EV brand and everyone does it and back peddles on when the time comes.
But why would you object to that target? If they could deliver, they have a vehicle similar in cost to what many people pay and with sufficient range to overcome most people’s range anxiety.
I more object to them setting the target with “or”, rather than “and”
Because it’s a bold faced lie that gets them a bump in stock price.
This is just as ugly as the Hyundai Santa Cruz.
Another Minivan missing part of its roof. For fuck sakes car makers, electric Ford ranger Chevy S10 sized vehicle. For a reasonable price. The Maverick proves that people want and will buy pickups that size.
Preach it. A PHEV maverick would be amazing.
I want a phev double cab Tacoma with a 6-ft bed. I would buy that tomorrow.
If they actually made enough of them. Out of all these hard to get cars, the Maverick is a unicorn. Ive seen maybe less than a handful on the road since theyve come out. Ive seen more Hummer EVs than Mavericks, considering that ones a rare sight too, given the cost of one.
That might be based on where you live. Im in Austin TX and I see several mavericks every day but I think I’ve only seen 1 Hummer EV in the wild.
I also see a Rivian every day. But then I had a 8 hour road trip and I never saw once I got out of Austin.
Oh yeah I see rivians all the time. But then again, EVs are popular here.
They make plenty, just no one wants a unibody/fwd/generally incapable pickup.
If Ford made regular cab 6’ bed maverick with a manual I’d be all over it. Nobody makes a truly small pickup with a 6’ bed anymore. In the US at least. I miss my Comanche.
Café standards make those trucks cost prohibitive in the US. It’s dumb.

They could if they didn’t insist on making every truck a four door
They have to make every one the same config, its a unibody not a body on frame design. More in common with a civic than a ranger.
Can’t. EPA and safety regs say you can’t.
I kinda like the look of the Santa Cruz though. My boss has one and its a handsome looking ute. The typical angry, squared truck that Ford/Chevy/Dodge make is kinda tired.
But even more useless!
I understand trying to make electric cars different but at least make it look decent my god. I don’t understand how this goes through everyone it does and they think “Yeah, this looks like a great everyday car someone will drive”
It’s designed for the target demographic.
People that want to tail gate you with their oversized vehicle blocking everything that their lights don’t blind.
I like the look of it. Reminds me of a Santa Cruz.
Would love a truck like that, but damn, shits too expensive. Ive been priced out of new cars in that category.
I also think that’s way too expensive and wonder how people afford those, but apparently they do. I haven’t even looked at pickups and decades, but the list price way back then is still more than I’d pay now.
Man back then a base truck was 20 grand. Or a well equipped sedan for similar price.

Size-wise it looks perfect. I also like the styling, but no chance in hell it’s going to hit that price point unless they are essentially giving these away to try to gain marketshare. Of course if that is what they are doing, it is a dangerous game which could cost them the entire company.

Is it the truckbed? Tell me its the truckbed. It’s the truckbed isn’t it.
If I can’t put a service bed or a stake bed or a dump bed on it is it a truck? Why would I want a truck with a bed shorter than a loader bucket? We need electric trucks that can replace the thousands of 200,000k mile fleet vehicles out there. This is just a tall El Camino.
I would take an electric el Camino in a heartbeat.
Touche. So would I.
My Honda pickup is also basically a tall el Camino. For us, and the majority of people, it’s great. All wheel drive that favors the front wheels (Lockable at low speed) for beaches and slick roads, full independent suspension to keep the tires planted, enough ground clearance for mountain roads, enough towing for a small camper (but 5k limit is not doing heavy work), and a bed to haul stuff. I’m not a contractor or farmer that needs a real truck, so the compromises that make it better on wet or slick roads is perfect.
But I agree, we need F150 lightnings too for the contractors and farmers.
A truck bed that can’t hold an adult bicycle is a joke.
Which makes it a much more dangerous and deadlier El Camino
As long as they look like this, Rivian or Cybertruck I’m sticking with my Diesel Navara.
