Switch to Linux if you can. But if you are stuck with Windows for whatever reason, you can install Windows 11 and use a local account, by creating a Windows installation media using Rufus. You can also bypass the requirements for TPM 2.0, and skip privacy questions.
If you already have Windows 11 installed, you can switch from online account to local account:
- Go to the Settings app,
- Proceed to Accounts > Your info,
- And select “Sign in with a local account instead”.

Ventoy is amazing, but sometimes Windows ISOs don’t work, so I use Rufus as a backup, plus you can customise the ISO as this post shows
Rufus is great, it’s worth booting back into Windows for.
Trying to ask someone to talk about Windows without mentioning Linux is like trying to see how long someone into CrossFit goes before they talk about it.
Thanks, but I’d rather simply not use W11 at all. Plenty of alternatives out there now. Once my 6-year old PC with a Win10 install croaks, that’ll be the last vestige of Microsoft in my home gone.
