What Distro are you running. I haven’t had a problem playing any game I wanted with Ubuntu/steam/proton.

I am on Linux. I don’t think the Linux Nvidia driver supports HDR yet. Shame I like how HDR looks. It makes the bright stuff look rich and the dark stuff look well defined. I watch TV with an Nvidia Shield Box and love the HDR on that.
Looks like Vulkan is the default and best choice for most people.
It might change on release but at this stage HDR is only on DX11 so I’ll be sticking with that personally.
