So basically it’ll be easier to put people on a 5150. Cops can just pick you up for being high, or pick up a homeless person off the street for vague “personal safety” reasons (it would be digressing, but lord knows they already abuse those 5150s).

Then our hospitals will get more backed up, because we already have a shortage of beds for mental health patients as it is. Or shall folks keep cycling through and straining the system?

Definitely appreciate the good intentions in getting people the help they need. My bottom line is, we better be building more mental health facilities. HUGE need for long-term psychiatric facilities (the waitlist for these often take months). Plus staffing and training takes time. Anyway, we’ll see how 2024 plays out.

That’s a lot of new laws.

Mostly good but one that’s bad is the one that allows tickets from speed cameras:

AB 645: Allows six cities - Glendale, Long Beach, Los Angeles, Oakland, San Francisco and San Jose - to install speed cameras. The law requires cities to put up signage warning drivers they could get a ticket if they don’t slow down before approaching the speed camera
