Formula Regional European driver Dilano van’t Hoff has died as a result of a crash during a wet race at Spa-Francorchamps.
I am a little confused. We had spa on the calender for many years without deadly shunts. But now in a span of few years, we have lost 2 young people to the track(eau rouge-raidillon complex). Those corners have not changed massively and the cars are lot safer than before. Was it the case that the corners are inherently dangerous and blind luck was the reason that we had no major accidents there or have the cars changed and made it dangerous now. Either way the corner profile has to change. As legendary as the corners are, they are not worth the cost of human life
I’m not sure if I should post the video, but having watched it, it’s extremely similar to the crash that killed Anthoine Hubert. Looks further along the track - at the start of the Kemmel straight - but very similar.
Accident description
It’s not clear how (very bad weather conditions, lots of spray/fog), but his car spins into the middle of the track, stops fully sideways/perpendicular to the track, then is T-boned by another car.
Absolutely tragic.
Yet people will still moan about red flags when the rain is so heavy you can’t see car ahead…
