Surban mom.
Treadmill under my desk, so I can walk and work at the same time. And 10 min of Pilates before bed.
I feel judged.
It has taken me, on average, 6 months to find new work each time I do it and I send hundreds of resumes. So I think you are doing the right things. It just sucks. Sometimes you can get a lead from someone you know and that gets your foot in the door.
Remember, you are reviewing them as an employer too. If they have a shitty applicant experience, that should play into your decision process (easier said than done when you just want to make rent).
Feel free to message me if you would like resume or other search help.
Try to touch a baby Canadian goose with the parent geese near by. WTF was that lady thinking!?!
Maybe… I depend on it for a bunch of stuff: my calendar, my personal and work email, communication with friends and family, getting my news, taking pictures of fun stuff I’m doing with my kids, reading books, grocery shopping, etc. During a recent power outage, I ended up going to a bookstore for a paper book, since that seemed to be the thing I missed most.
Romance novels are wildly popular (https://freakonomics.com/podcast/romance-novels/) and many of them are very explicit. I remember my mom and grandma (!!!) reading them while watching me and my brother when we were little - can you imagine watching a little porn while watching the kids? 😳
I once made cranberry jelly from scratch and then poured it into an empty can. Whatever recipe I used caused it to firm up pretty well, so it had all the ridges and everything.
I’m old enough that my early adulthood did not include cell phones (unless you count the brick phones), and certainly no Internet access. I enjoyed it more.
I know this isn’t an awesome answer, but safety is more important than standing your feminist ground sometimes: either go to another yoga class or bring a friend. It sux to rearrange your life because of some weirdo, but less than being attacked. Also, consider keeping mace or a whistle on you in case there is a confrontation.
I’m really sorry this is the experience you are having. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve had more choice in who I spend thanksgiving with and what I eat - so hopefully you get that flexibility soon. One year I went to Mexico, which was a great way to opt out of local festivities. This year we have a couple of people with celiac attending, so we are eating nontraditional food. Also, turkey is objectively gross.
Edit: Some years I host so I can get shit faced without worrying about driving (in retrospect , I am probably “that” relative) - another great way to make the holidays tolerable.
Misuse, or misjudging when to use it.
Yeah, it is a bummer. But at this point, I’m old and used to it, and this is the fastest way to get traction on my ideas. 🤷
I ask leading questions that make people think an idea is theirs. Business people love their own ideas. A woman’s? Not so much.
We lost power for 48 hours, which wasn’t so bad. The worst part was how messed up the roads were/are. We couldn’t even get to a place with power to eat out. :/
Edit: Hobart still doesn’t have power (currently stuck in traffic due to stop lights that are out). What s fucking mess…
Totally agree. In 2000, during the hanging chad debacle, I had a philosophy professor completely shift our class to the philosophy of voting. I found it endlessly fascinating and opened my thinking around voting. Here’s some good info on the topic: https://plato.stanford.edu/entries/voting-methods/.
I’d pay $500 for a video of him saying “I’m a disgraced weirdo.”
They were bad out in the cascade foothills (North bend, maple valley, enumclaw). Roads are still closed from downed trees and power lines, traffic lights are out, power is estimated to come back on in my area on Friday afternoon. A tree fell on my house, which is a really pain in the rear. I don’t think the city got too much wind.
Then they aren’t really about efficiency, are they? When properly set up, WFH for office work is very effective and efficient.
I worked with a lady who had something similar and had a hysterectomy. While I’m sure there was a lot of disappointment in the beginning, they leaned into their hobbies and currently lead an awesome life filled with travel and video games. Alternatively, there’s always adoption or surrogacy. Talk with your wife and see what path sounds best to you two.
