@maxprime my technology teacher in middle school did something similar with me and a bunch of other kids in 1995 or so. That’s how I fixed my first pc, and eventually started a career in IT. There was no team competition, but he basicallt said "these are some broken computers, if you can fix them you can have a lab to play Doom or whatever you want. He helped us setting up the IPX network tbf, but we had to check what dimm banks were working, which not, same with hdd and processors, and put togheter everything and install Windows 3.11
@[email protected] the reason why on reddit I did not hang out “generic” rpg spaces is because by sheer volume DnD 5e players dominate the conversation, and a large part of the DnD 5e conversation (at least on reddit) seems to focus on mechanics optimization, meta, and very DnD-specific things I am not interested about.
OSR/NSR/Indie spaces are more interesting for someone like me that prefers talking about adventuring, and the less boardgame-y or MMO-y aspects of the game.
To clarify: I have zero elitism or gatekeeping feelings towards DnD 5e, it’s a good game that opened up the hobby to many many people, and it’s a blessing, however I like having a space where to talk about rpgs that are not it.
@HexedPress it’s more or less my favorite game :)
Life on Terranova is the single best setting manual I have ever read.
@HexedPress I will recommend an old system:
The Silhouette, which originally powered Heavy Gear, Jovian Chronicles, Gear Krieg and Tribe 8 and was eventually published ad a standalone book as SilCore.
It’s a generic system, not too crunchy but extremely versatile. It replaced GURPS in my campaigns between 2004 and 2014ish.
Dream Pod 9 is kickstarting a new edition of Heavy Gear, however from what I have seen in playtest the new Silhouette is quite different from the old one I like.
@theLazyPragmatic we are starting the campaign this summer finally. It’s my friends I have been playing with for over 20 years, and recently we decided this year we’ll finally get around playing FL, Mothership and possibly Lancer. But then yesterday I got Broken Compass and I might want to push that on top of the list.
I will definitely join the Lemmy community! Thank you for the link
@theLazyPragmatic @osr I am in love with it. I managed to sell it to some friends that are obsessed with Gloomhaven telling them about the map with stickers, which apparently was a huge selling point for both.
@[email protected] @[email protected] I loved FTA as a kid, I would love to play it again!
