Jon S. von Tetzchner
I have been working with Web technologies since 1992. I have co-founded two browser companies, Opera Software and Vivaldi Technologies. I was CEO at Opera and I am CEO at Vivaldi.
I am a strong proponent of open standards. I believe in building feature rich products that can be adapted to the needs of users without collecting information about usage. I believe no company has the right to profile their users.

I guess that would be an option for the future. I kind of like having more of them as it does not require me to wait.

Sadly they killed it, but that is also why you have Vivaldi, so IMHO that is a good thing. :)

Not a bubble, just a nice place. We must invite more people to join us.

You can add that as well. You have to add it manually, but I tested it and it works well.

There is a reason why we include Wikipedia as well. It is good for many things. So is adding vertical search engines, which is easy to do in Vivaldi. You can then access them all quickly through the search engine shortcuts.
Jon S. von Tetzchner@social.vivaldi.netOPtoMicrosoft Windows@fedia.io•Nobody can claim that we do not love adding features at Vivaldi. There is a lot of them. Some things, however, we have chosen to ignore. Here is one example:1·7 months agoThank you for your kind words.
We have a built in ad and tracker blocker and we work with extensions as well.

I am a fan of simple, but fun arcade games and that is what we built. The games are free to play1·8 months ago@[email protected] @[email protected]
It is possible to do multiple things at the same time. Particularly when the actual work on the games is done by Porcelain Fortress. I engaged with them a fair bit, because I enjoy their games, but Vivaldi programmers did not, except for playing the games them selves.
We continue to improve the Vivaldi ad blocker and we continue improving all other elements of Vivaldi. We love doing that, but personally I also enjoy those games a lot.

Had a quick game. Can you beat my score?
@[email protected] @[email protected] , you can, of course, use command chains. That means you can make custom mouse gestures, that perform custom command chains. Pretty powerful stuff this.
@[email protected] @[email protected]
Those kind of gestures tend to be more system related. Please file a bug and we will look into it.
Indeed. I implemented MDI tabs in Opera 1.0 30 years ago. Mouse gestures were added years later.
Mouse gestures in Vivaldi are a lot more powerful, though. You can easily make your own and have them to just about anything.

There is a reason why we are joining with others to get this right.2·8 months ago@[email protected] , we do not have much of a choice. We aim to support our users wherever they are. Thus we support all major platforms today.
We will have to see how things pan out. I do believe regulators play an important role. They do make a difference.
We can also make a difference. All of us. Public opinion matters.

There is a reason why we are joining with others to get this right.1·8 months ago@[email protected] , we are as a small company competing with some of the largest in the world: Microsoft, Google and Apple. I wish I could say one of them was always doing the right thing. I cannot. It has been frustrating.
It is not easy. We make our software available on their platforms and we need them to play fair. They do not.
Our goal is to build great software for our users and supporting services as well. That is really what we can do and we hope to win over a lot of users doing just that.

There are options. We will have to see what we can do.
