Arch Linux@discuss.tchncs.de•ArchLinux doesn't boot past the bootloaderEnglish
1·2 days agoI would like to try the amdgpu-pro-installer package, but
yay - v amdgpu-pro-installerwith or without verbose gives me a blank response right away.If I use a fake package name, it does the same. If I use another existing one, it works.
From my understanding, I may be able to use PKGBUILD instead of yay?
It did not work for me.

1·3 days agoThe motherboard does have an onboard graphics for HDMI, but I never seem to get it working. I’m not sure what to do to get it working. Remove the GPU and reset the CMOS?
Already, I ran 3dmark on Windows, and my success rate was very high.
I’m running a Ryzen 9 5900x CPU
I can load arch by turning on nomodeset, then get the logs if that counts.

Fedora is able to
modprobe amdgpu, which my current installed Arch cannot.

linux-lts is causing the same problem for me. When booting I need to press e and add nomodeset at the end of boot loader.
sudo modprobe amdgpu modprobe: ERROR: could not insert ‘amdgpu’: Invalid argument
And the following is blank sudo ls /lib/firmware/amdgpu/ | grep navi21

Uninstalling all desktop environments and KDE related stuff, then reinstalling kde-desktop and sddm worked.
It looks better and runs faster than it ever did before!
Thanks, but I don’t like using distros other than from the main providers.
This worked so easily.
- installed linux-lts alongside already installed linux.
- Updating my bootloader (systemd-boot instead of grub) to use linux-lts instead by changing 2 lines in /boot/loader/entries/my-entry.conf.
- Reboot.
KDE is too slow to be useable now. Should I try reinstalling it?
Opening another TTS, the terminal runs fast and fine. No process is above 1% CPU and 2℅ memory. Barely any ram space used. A lot of storage space available.
