But you can shoot the masked men coming to kidnap you.
Might not be able to stop it.
I work at a dispensary. In theory this could actually be helpful for my job.
no saving it in the western world*
drunkpostdisaster@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.world•Government condemns Glastonbury chants aired live on BBCEnglish12·5 days agoBy it I mean how the idf is used and it’s place in the Palestinian and Israeli conflict.
And by nice normal counties I mean counties that don’t have recruiters at high schools, that don’t do the pledge of allegiance very day at school, that don’t hit you over the head with how brave and great their military is and provide free healthcare an college to non military members.
drunkpostdisaster@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.world•Government condemns Glastonbury chants aired live on BBCEnglish13·5 days agoAgain I agree. But I feel like we are simpling it to much. And I kind of feel like people are not making those distinctions. And it’s kind of galling to hear it from nice normal countries that dont have to deal with all this.
drunkpostdisaster@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.world•Government condemns Glastonbury chants aired live on BBCEnglish12·5 days agoAgreed. But it sure does not feel like people here want to make that distinction.
drunkpostdisaster@lemmy.worldto Worldbuilding@lemmy.world•What interesting sci-fi weaponry exists in your settings?English2·5 days agoI am working on a ‘realistic’ sci/fi mech setting. Mechs are mostly used for uban combat and still need infantry support so they use those goofy spring shoes that have probably killed a few people by now to stay a head and clear any anti mech weapons by parkouring around the city. The legs retract when they need to go inside a building.
Besides that though most of my weapons are pretty standard as I tend to focus on production history and why certain designs show up in certain parts of the solar system.
Like I have one mech that is sort of the AK or MIG of the setting. It was built to be cheap and so simple that you can train someone to use it (well enough) in six months where other mechs take three years of training. Its also built with the intention of having easily replicable parts so its easy to take a part and smuggle. It was built near the end of the Lunar-Earth war to quickly replace Lunar colonies heavy loses. It didn’t save them, but at the end of the war they had more mechs then any other solar nation combined which have been sold off to rebel groups all around the solar system. So in the end the Lunar colonies fucked everyone over including themselves.
Another mech was designed by belter colonies who needed a standardized but easily customizable design to meet all the varied challenges they face in terms of industry. Theyn also though it was a good idea to use the same chassis for their weapons and so there are hundreds of ‘rogue’ colonies springing up they are so easy to get ahold of and modify to the point that they don’t even need to be used just for urban combat.
There needs to be some kind of push to take back a lot of symbols from them. There is no reason Norse symbols should still be associated with the worst people ever. There is no saving the swastika however.
drunkpostdisaster@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.world•Government condemns Glastonbury chants aired live on BBCEnglish21·5 days agoMaybe? Isreal would still have the better weapon platforms then its regional neighbors and i think will more likely use a nuke in a situation like that if it feels desperate enough.
drunkpostdisaster@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.world•Government condemns Glastonbury chants aired live on BBCEnglish13·5 days agoThe people filming it would be the absolute worst of them or maybe the IDF only uses the most absolute sociopaths for their combat roles. The dude cleaning floors or whatever to avoid going to prison should not be held in the same regard as the dude executing children.
drunkpostdisaster@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.world•Government condemns Glastonbury chants aired live on BBCEnglish13·5 days agoI agree. But we also need to look at the lies they are told and how pervasive those lies are recruiters are basically child groomers. Very few people join because they think they are going to get to kill civilians.
drunkpostdisaster@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.world•Government condemns Glastonbury chants aired live on BBCEnglish11·5 days agoThen we should be thinking hard about how these countries recruit. I am not saying defend the war criminals, but if you want to fight them you have to see how they work.
Look at all these countries that fought the nazis long ago and how they became more and more fascist afterward. you would think they would be smarter then this, but it is clear all the wrong lessons have been learned.
drunkpostdisaster@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.world•Government condemns Glastonbury chants aired live on BBCEnglish23·5 days agoI would to a degree. I was alive when the ‘war on terror’ started, the recruiting starts at childhood and you can join at 17 that is no where near enough to make an entirely informed choice like that. And in the US if you are poor and want to go to college or get healthcare you really do not have many other options.
Hamas and the taliban are absolutly evil organizations. But if your country is being occupied and they are the only ones you seem to be fighting back then what do you do?
drunkpostdisaster@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.world•Government condemns Glastonbury chants aired live on BBCEnglish113·5 days agoIts not though. Do you think a few years in prison will make you a better person? Or having to find a job as a felon or whatever the Israeli equivalent is? you are asking people to do shit no one will ever ask of you and you will never be put in a similar situation. Fuck the IDF, but if you want this to end you have to see the whole picture.
Remember when republican bitches about how much we spent on immigration?
