Had a day playing boardgames with pals. Went on a bit later than usual. Then the train we were going to get back was cancelled. With the Scotrail app saying someone’s been hit. Bit shocked. It’s usually just a signalling problem. Am back in fine now.

Noticed that the wind lasted longer than first predicted. Still doesn’t seem to have cause as much damage as I’d expected. Maybe Èowyn cleared out all the loose stuff first.
For as gusty as it got our wee garden faired very well. Had to secure a loose vine branch but ot made it through without breaking in the end.
Cats are so funny. Mine will not bat an eyelid at fireworks but a little bit of wind and they do not want to know.
Quiet weekend. Putting off some things I need to do til Monday.
Everyone get through the storm okay?
It’ll be playing Jump Space with my pals for me tonight. Only played the tutorial solo. Multiplayer might end in chaos. But we’ll have a good natter either way. https://jumpspacegame.com/

Scotland @lemmy.world•If the Scottish government proposed to increase tax by 1% and make trains free would you be in favour?English
5·2 months agoSounds good to me. Taking at least some of the traffic off the roads would make it safer for those who do have to use them as well. Maybe a reduction in noise and light pollution too.
The Others, Tournament at Camelot, A Fistful of Meeples, The Crew: Mission Deep Sea. Probably won’t get them all played but that’s the line-up.
Meeting some friends for a celebratory dinner (and board games) tomorrow.
Had a wander today and found out about some free events that might be fun to attend / help out with.

Scotland @lemmy.world•Is Nigel Farage correct to call Glasgow the UK's asylum capital?English
8·2 months agoIf so we should be proud of helping so many folk in need of asylum.
On another note, if that is somehow a concern of westminster they could neatly get rid of that particular “problem” by recognising Scotland as an independent country.
On my way to visit mum’s grave. It was a few years ago now, so not still raw feeling. But wish I was going to see her instead.
I got to see it! It is very good. The lead is giving me real young-Brendan-Fraser vibes. So if the ever wanted to properly reboot The Mummy…
Ooo, I want to see that. Hope it’s still on when I get around to it.
Was waiting on word of some work but they’ve not got back to me. Ah well shrugs

Scotland @lemmy.world•Scotland’s only heritage tram ride has been out of action for more than two years because its museum has searched in vain for someone to run the operation.English
10·3 months agoSummerlee is a great museum. Doesn’t look like much from the railway line. But when you get in there the grounds are quite extensive.
Wouldn’t mind that job (Tram Technician/Operator) but I’ve not got the experience needed.
They’ve contact details on their site. https://www.summerleetg.co.uk/

Scotland @lemmy.world•When Scotland was the world's UFO hot spotEnglish
1·3 months agoNot aliens but started listening to a New Zealand podcast and the very first episode a Scottish crytid gets a mention. (It’s by some comedians. So genuine interest but not overly serious… At all). Very Shax vibes there XD Accurate.

Recovering from a stomach bug that’s going round (not had it as bad as some, fortunately). Other than that, messing with the household computers. Seeing some well made FOSS versions of software that I use a lot now. The moving away from US corporation controlled software continues.

Definitely should re-evaluate council tax on a lot of places. Think it was last done in the 90s. Agree on the gradual approach, and being careful not to land average and low income folk with a horrific bill.
