A week before Pride last year, my town was dripping in rainbows. The march is this coming Saturday and I have seen maybe 4 or 5 in town and all on businesses, people are nervous .

I thought was an interesting discourse about urbanism, capitalism, gender and environmentalism. It fell a bit flat in parts, but the ideas around personhood and responsibility were thoughtfully done.

I bounce between being angrily out and worried about the safety of my family. I’m not worried so much about the politicians here in Canada, I don’t believe that the the alt right rhetoric will win them government, but I do worry about the nutjobs they will inspire to act out violently.

So, sadly, m’husband and I have agreed that there will be no Pride flag on the house this year and we’ll walk the pride march with a careful eye on the protesters who will turn up.
I can almost bring myself feel sorry for o’ Toole, if only I could force myself to forget the he tried to have a go at the populism trick as well.
