After ArriveCan it’s no surprise that something like this would come out calling for them to look at costs on these contracts.

Although with the amount of tech debt in the government any IT work will be an uphill battle and no politician wants to pay to cut down tech debt. So I don’t see a way out for them at the moment.

Definitely feels like a downturn but I can’t help but wonder why they point to office space as such a large concern. Unless there was major offshoring going on however that was left out of the article it seems.

T.O. added 63,800 tech talent jobs between 2017 and 2022 — the second-most of any city in the continent, after only San Francisco — but our massive glut of empty office space post-lockdown has been a cause for concern.

I imagine it looks the opposite of this.

At this rate if Germany becomes a leader in exporting non data harvesting devices/vehicles I can assure you I’ll be buying all my electronics from Germany soon enough.

Surely if we allow them to privatize parts that should fix the funding issue, hopefully people only need healthcare they can afford!

Great read, warnings like this should be added to the conversation as long as federation with Meta is brought up. Especially for non-technical users or new users who haven’t seen embrace, extend, extinguish before we will need some way to let them know what is on the other end of federating with large companies.

Sadly that’s exactly who Meta wants, is people who don’t care about the underlying system and they I’m sure will spend much more convincing those users that federation with Meta is a good thing.

Given what’s going on with WhatsApp in India I think this will be the case.
