It meows like a cat with an extremely sore throat. Some call it a bark, but it absolutely is not.

Yeah, not going to lie. The first time I heard one in the woods at night, it scared the shit out of me.

Is calling it a “meow with extreme vigor” a good compromise? Probably not and you are likey more accurate.

Tbf in the woods even the squirrels are scary. Damn loud little pine cone throwing bastards.

I once went camping by myself (I’m a woman), and I thought someone was about to break into my tent to murder me. Nope, it was a beaver dragging branches nearby at night. Haven’t gone camping by myself since.

So the answer to “what does the fox say” is actually “screams of absolute terror”? I think that would have improved the song.

            Yeah. That would be accurate.

This is a decent example (he wasn’t fully committed, me thinks): https://youtube.com/shorts/vSHbYgibL9M?si=LEvooLKAerz1axs_

This is what mostly we are referring to: https://youtu.be/zBpZTo1dlPM?si=ccRsQj1SCwX-5Z2_

I played that out loud and my small dachshund damn near fell off the bed.

See what we mean? Even other dogs don’t know what the hell is going on with that noise.

Yeah, it’s very… unique. It sounds like it hurts them to make the sound. Basically the sound I imagine coming from this painting:

I think it’s based on the fact that it’s a canine, thus dog hardware. But I don’t disagree with you.

The opposite is a hyena. They are dog software running on cat hardware.
