    Jesus fucking Christ.

On a second thought, that could either be good for Postmedia or bad for TorStar, depending on which becomes more like the other.

I kinda feel like the Star is already indistinguishable from Postmedia.

Still not good to have the news be even more consolidated tho.

Really? The Star is indistinguishable from The National Post or … The Sun?

There have been many times I’ve seen some dumbass thing from the Star posted somewhere and I think “just some Postmedia crap.” Takes a few minutes to remember that the Star isn’t actually Postmedia.

The Star has been moving in Postmedia’s direction since it’s sale. This is the completion of that.

Interesting. What does that change look like from what you’ve noticed?

Not necessarily some huge change from the writing staff. But the editorial slant of the paper has felt like it’s been getting closer to what you’d expect from a Postmedia paper like the Toronto Sun or the Calgary Herald.

I’ll keep an eye. From the Cdn outlets, what’s worth paying for that’s not the CBC?

Well, now that’s slim pickings. I’m not the biggest fan of the Globe and Mail’s slant, but they are Canadian owned so at least have that over Postmedia. Reuters is also Canadian owned (same owner as the Globe and Mail, the Thomson family), but is more internationally focused than Canada focused. Personally I read the Tyee, The Walrus, and The Maple, but those aren’t dailies and they have a pretty clear political slant to the left if that’s an issue for you. Of the larger networks that aren’t CBC I tend to look at Global over CTV, but I’m not super in love with them either.

I had no idea Reuters is Canadian-owned. Yeah, I have no problem with left slant.

I was also surprised when I found out. The Thomson’s bought them out in 2008 so it’s not Canadian since forever or anything, though.

I know that everyone has their own lens but looking through mine, I wouldn’t call the CBC left-leaning which is why I take MBFC’s ratings with a bowl of salt. 😀

CTV news is honestly one of the most bias free and accurate sources

Except when discussing things related to Bell Canada and their competitors.
