Since the update to Version 18, I have been unable to subscribe to any communities (local and federated), with the subscribe button simply not appearing. I am using Firefox 114.0.2 with uBlock Origin running. Anyone know what I might do to fix this issue? Thanks!!!

Edit1: Just tried the same process using Brave Browser, and experiencing the same issue:

Edit2: @floofloof’s workaround of searching for the community via the “communities” tab seems to work intermittently on both Chrome and Firefox!

Yet another workaround is to just click the community title. The subscribe button will then appear on refresh (but won’t on the usual F5 or Ctrl+R refresh). I haven’t had a chance to dig deeper and see what’s going on.

from a different comment i made earlier today:

looks like they’re aware of the issue, and there’s a workaround:

The way to resolve is to click on any link on that community and the Subscribe/Block buttons show up again.

I have this issue too. My workaround is to click on the “create post” button, and then click the browser’s back button. Then the subscribe button shows up.

I’ve also noticed that for me if I open the comments on a random post within the sub, then the button shows up on the sidebar usually. No idea if that will work for anyone else though.

Another workaround: Click create post the go back to a page and the buttons should appear

Thank you (and @onTerryO) for this workaround as well!! Much easier when loading into a community from a hotlink!

I have seen this too from time to time. If you use the search function to search for the community, and click through that way, does the subscribe button appear for you then?

Magically, this seems to have worked on Chrome!! Thanks for the workaround–hopefully Firefox is better supported by the Lemmy devs soon!

Edit: And on Firefox too now! Strange, but thanks for your help!!!

I found another workaround for this issue that doesn’t involve searching: just change the value of the dropdown for “Hot/Active/New/…” and it refreshes the page and makes the Subscribe button appear.

Yes, I don’t think it’s browser specific. I use Firefox. Glad it worked for you.

Works on Android Chrome. Try private browsing session or Chromium.

I just tried the same process on Brave Browser and a fresh install of Chrome (inPrivate, no extensions) and unfortunately seeing the same behavior!

        Not browser-related then. Interesting. 🤔
