Yes, once the crazy person starts spouting their crazy the scientist they’ve connected to can hang up. but it’s still embarrassing for a receptionist to accidentally let one get through.

I’m not sure why you’re so confused about this.

Why is any of that a problem? A crazy dude comes up, gets by reception by not showing signs of an unhinged lunatic until he gets further down the line and then whenever someone is like yeah this dude’s dumb, just click the red button it’s not that hard and no one should feel bad about it. Except for the crazy fella of course.

It is confusing. I mean if she’d let crazy people walk in, yeah that’d suck since you can’t make them disappear with a click of a button but phones literally have the red thing for these situations. None of this makes sense.

Because it’s a waste of their time when they could be doing something more important? Are you really this dense?

Sure, but how is it embarrassing for whoever let them through? Or how much time really is wasted, it takes like a second to press the button

Context switching, if it ends up being an irrelevant phone call even if it’s short, it can throw off your flow. It’s embarrassing because they were tricked into letting through a bad call. Are you like an alien trying to understand humanity or something?

I wouldn’t call it tricking, more like deceiving with a clear intent to be a nuisance to everyone involved. Presumably even the scientist down the line was deceived into talking to them before inevitably hanging up. Nothing embarrassing about that. But yeah I don’t disagree with the flow thing, that sucks but again it’s no ones fault but the callers.

You say that as a joke (?) but this honestly is my lemmy-experience so far in a nutshell lol.
