I’m tired of it all and need a hug

Honestly this is one of the things I appreciate about Trek. Things don’t just automatically get better and better throughout human history. But in both Trek and real life, people want things to get better and will fight to make them better if given a chance. Past Tense might be my favorite episode of TV in general because while things might still get worse before they get better, the Bell Riots are one of the things that spurs people into action.

I think there’s a lot to be hopeful for in that respect. We’re seeing a resurgence of unions and labor action after they collapsed in the 90s, the development of an incredibly large anti war movement, and people are realizing things only change if we force them to.

Anyways, there will always be bad things happening in a capitalist society, but there will always be people fighting to make things better, and right now a lot of people are realizing they want to be a part of that group.

So yeah, shit sucks but there will always be people who want to fix things.

Honestly, I’m cautiously optimistic right now. The media/pr/etc all show things that make Trump seem more likely, but of course the conservative PR machine will push that idea. They need to seem to have a realistic fight. What PR cannot hide though is actual voting returns. The population is moving away from MAGA, as shown in the last couple of elections. Yes, repubs will continue to beat the fascist drum, and they won’t stop. The media will broadcast it, since it’s make them money.

Of course there is no certainty (the Gaza/Isreael war could change a lot of things), so I’ll still stay vigilant. But I am still cautiously optimistic.

This has been proven untrue. A frog will jump out of a pan of boiling water. Which has also proved that we are dumber than frogs.

I like star trek but I could do without the “socialist utopia”. Star trek shouldn’t be a instruction manual

I’m not sure if you watched any Star Trek… Do you think life on the Enterprise or whatever is terrible? Isn’t human life portrayed pretty much as utopian as possible in Star Trek?

True but this episode in particular is fairly controversial and I can’t imagine it aging well

Controversial? You are literally the first person I’ve ever heard say that.

          Possibly.

I think people are just reacting negatively because you explicitly said Star Trek in general, and you were not referring to this episode in particular.
