As a heavy Sync Pro user for something like a decade, with a lot of respect for ljdawson and the work he put in - the announcement that he’s working on a new version for Lemmy was what pushed me to move away from Reddit and give this a shot. So excited for the new project! Hopefully other users feel the same way I did.

I’ve been using Sync for Reddit so long, I am seriously pumped for Sync for Lemmy.

Same. Hopefully it keeps the look and feel of existing Sync for Reddit. I have Pro and will get Pro for Lemmy

He said in the discord that test builds will be coming soon, and that combined with his mention of the splash screen lead me to believe…yes? Maybe? Don’t expect everything to be included, but I bet he probably wants something released before the end of the month. I know I would if I were him.

Good news, hopefully RIF’s dev bother porting theirs too. I’m not sure if there’s incentive in a monetary way at the moment.

Does this mean I could buy the sync for reddit app now and when the sign up and everything happens I would be good to go?

I’m pretty sure that the developer will need to post lemmy version as a different app on app stores so maybe wait to purchase.

Tbh, even if it isn’t something you like long term, supporting the effort is a good idea if you can afford it.

But the “good to go” is questionable because it’s a first effort. There could be bugs and glitches with the interface that can’t be predicted until more users are on it.

I haven’t been back over to the old (Relay) hood since last weekend. Any word on all that?

The developer originally said he could sustain a $3 a month subscription, but after checking the numbers for higher usage account he saw that it couldn’t really work.

        From /u/DBrady

I’m still looking into it, gathering data etc. Unfortunately the average call rates when broken down to the top 2, 5, 10% etc of users is painting a much different picture. This is the cohort of users I would expect to possibly convert to a subscription model and the average rates for those users can be 3,4,5 even 600 hundred calls per day just by the shear amount they use the app. Some of the top users are well over 1000 per day and sometimes over 2000.

So I’m not sure yet. It would probably have to be a usage based subscription model if it was going to be anything and I’m not sure that’s worth doing. I am still looking into it but unfortunately I don’t think my earlier price points will work.

Yeah I have memmy. For some reason it wouldn’t let me respond to your comment so I had to open up Thunder for lemmy. Neither of them feel like iOS apps though, especially Thunder feels android… i know there is someone on mastodon making a kbin app that’s like Apollo for iOS so maybe i can use that for lemmy as well. We’ll see

Thanks! Every time I tried to get into mlem it said it was full but I’m in now. It looks super bare bones right now as it doesn’t even have messages yet but I like the look of the app. It looks super similar to Apollo for Reddit and actually feels like an iOS app. I’ll still be using Memmy and thunder for now until it gets more features then I may switch over :)
