I heard drowning originally. When I heard he was found in a hot tub, I remembered all the substance abuse issues he’d been fighting since the 90s-early 2000s. To be clear, I don’t know if this was related to drugs or alcohol at all, but with a 54 year old drowning in a tub, it’s not beyond the pale. I was a big fan of his when I was younger…its an odd feeling when public figures from your childhood start dying in greater numbers.

I hope the people close to him have the support they need. RIP buddy, thanks for laughs.

In all fairness, he also showed signs of a stroke a couple years ago. It seems like his health was not great in general, and there’s any number of reasons he may have lost consciousness in the hot tub, including substance abuse. It’s tragic no matter what. Rest in peace, Matthew.

They said no signs of alcohol or drugs were present at the scene and that they were responding to a possible cardiac incident. That seems likely. He probably had a heart attack and then drowned.

This feels a bit Bojack tbh. No one pulled him out of the pool.

Not trying to speak ill of the dead, but my sense is that Matthew Perry had a very Bojack life in general. He was the star of a big sitcom in the 90’s, struggled with substance abuse and became kinda washed up in the new millennium. Regardless, I think he was a cool guy and it sucks that he’s died so young.
