There’s so much negativity and fighting and shit talking in the comments over there. It’s like some people have a personal goal of making others look stupid in comparison to themselves and they just try as hard as possible to rub it in if they know something you don’t.
I really feel like the latest Unity migration brought over a bunch of chuds because the three Unity subs were like that before I switched to Godot. That subreddit is literally the only reason I still visit the site at all at this point and I’m just about done with it.
I was hoping more people would end up here, but this place isn’t nearly as active. I do plan on posting more when I make some more progress in my own projects, but I personally don’t have a whole lot to share right now.
Oh? I thought that was just Reddit users in general.
I went back to my region’s sub earlier this month and it sucked ass. Everyone was ville. I’m glad I left.
I was feeling like Lemmy had become a lot like reddit some time ago, but then I had to visit it for some technical stuff, and holy shit it’s way worse than I remember it.
There’s always going to be assholes anywhere you go. The more people there are, three more likely it is. And they’re usually more vocal and stand out more than anyone else that’s normal.
Here people are generally more respectful because they are optimistic about the success of this platform and want it to succeed. Assholes are quickly purged and blocked or defederated. Reddit was basically stripped of the tools that allowes mods to control their subs properly. So it’s all gone to shit.

Pretty much this; the politics subs put an incredibly fine point on it.
I am a business software dev. Interested in game dev. No content to post. Loitering here.
Same, and currently playing with bevy on free time so now godot is “backup plan” if I’m just too lazy to learn more with bevy and want to wrap something up .

Yep, same here… after over 20 years of business crap, starting to get into something I like. Godot user.
All a community like this needs is one or two passionate people to keep posting content regularly, even if it’s just links to articles. Be the change you want to see.
You know I might take that advice and start making a habit to search for and post something everyday or every other day. There’s a lot more tutorials coming out that can be posted and discussed.
IMO tutorials are terrible content for a link aggregator like Lemmy or reddit. They are targeted to a specific skill level and a specific “how-to” that may or may not be useful to aritrary users.
I think it’s much better to see people’s screenshots or videos of their games, and ask how they did something. It’s more interesting content and it leads to more engagement on the site because people have to actually discuss it in the comments.
I almost never watch tutorials, and even on Reddit the comments when they are posted are 100 variations on “thanks, great work” instead of actual discussion.
That’s a fair assessment and I’ll keep that consideration when deciding what to post, thank you

I disagree
They are targeted to a specific skill level and a specific “how-to” that may or may not be useful to aritrary users.
Are these people not on lemmy and reddit?
I watch tutorials, but only if it’s specifically for something that I want to do, not just on whim. So I agree. When I need a tutorial, I’ll search for it on YouTube. Any that I see here I will just scroll past
That would be awesome. I don’t use Godot regularly but I do play around with it from time to time.
Everytime i revisit reddit for any reason I’m blown away by how toxic everything has gotten.
I do hope communities here pick up more. I had a fairly successful Mastodon post gathering up Godot devs. If you’re also on there, you might follow some of these folks and cross post questions/announcements there. Using #godot on Masto helps a lot with discoverability as well.
It’s the enshittification. When you enshitify a social media platform, expect the users to enshittify right alongside it.
For another example, look no further than xXx_twiTter_xXx.
“Twitter has been infested with bots and people who post like bots”
I make the permanent jump from reddit after being banned from the last place I gave a shit about for anti-white racism… on their discord. Didn’t help that all the posts on the front page were outright nazi outrage bait full with jerking off fantasies of “law and order” punishments. I made the call that I would rather stare at a wall than stay on that site. I would be equally entertained anyway and way happier off that way.
I don’t frequent the other forums, so this post seems rather ironic.
Haven’t been to the subreddit in months now but that sounds very much like what I’d exepect of that sub now. Filled with Unity users who likely complain that Godot is different than Unity, Godot users who complain about the annoying Unity kids.
I do plan on posting more when I make some more progress in my own projects, but I personally don’t have a whole lot to share right now.
Yeah, same. But developers also find it very hard to gauge whether something is “ready” to show and wait super long. I’ll see what content I deem interesting enough to show from my projects in the coming days.
That’s just game dev in general. I had to quit modded because of all the fascists and reactionaries just everywhere. It’s a consequence of the programming industry being essentially a giant fraternity which drives away a lot of people who want to program but feel they can’t. Made worse by the fact that even if they do join out of pure passion it’s going to be beat out of them by an exe with multiple se–al harassment suits.
You know when some people are just inferior: despite many communities going on a protest and being marked as private, each of members suspecting nothing or drowning others remains a priority…
