Palestinians have been pushed into a corner and are surrounded. What the hell would you do in their shoes?

You can’t peacefully pull yourself out of oppression, because oppression is inherently violent.

I imagine it’s hard NOT to be violent when your food and water are controlled by people who believe you to be sub-human animals.

Also, Israel has dropped many bombs on many Palestinians, including children.

״hard not to be violent”? This was a premeditated massacre committed by trained and armed militants. It wasn’t a riot or an angry mob.

Isreal actively kills children and celebrates it. Go read about the Great March of Return. So many kids killed by the IDF. That’s a lot more than “collateral damage”

            https://www.cbsnews.com/news/israeli-t-shirts-joke-about-killing-arabs/

            https://interactive.aljazeera.com/aje/2021/palestine-know-their-names/index.html

Also a reminder that children make up 47% of Gaza, and Isreal happily continues to bomb them, and cut off electricity and running water as collective punishment.

Does Isreal do investigations into the mountains of children they kill? Or do they just say they’re “investigating” when something like this is clearly bad optics for them.

Isreal also undermines moderate Palestinian opposition in favour of Hamas, because they make good propaganda for them to justify their ethnic cleansing.

Even taking your cynical view, is it not telling that Israel at leasts cares about the optics?

I’m not siding with Hamas here. I’m pointing out an overlooked part of all this. Isreal keeps 2 million people, half of them children, in an open-air prison, bombs them constantly, murders their kids for minor transgressions and then (shocked Pikachu face) an extremist element breeds there. They then use that extremist element as propaganda for further bombings and land theft.

This is not a time to say “both sides bad” and move on. There is a cycle of violence here between two sides, but only one side here has the power to end that violence and it sure as hell isn’t the side being subjected to an Apartheid state.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Government ministers, newspaper columnists, ordinary people - they’re all asking why the BBC doesn’t say the Hamas gunmen who carried out appalling atrocities in southern Israel are terrorists.

We regularly point out that the British and other governments have condemned Hamas as a terrorist organisation, but that’s their business.

As it happens, of course, many of the people who’ve attacked us for not using the word terrorist have seen our pictures, heard our audio or read our stories, and made up their minds on the basis of our reporting, so it’s not as though we’re hiding the truth in any way - far from it.

No-one can possibly defend the murder of civilians, especially children and even babies - nor attacks on innocent, peace-loving people who are attending a music festival.

There was huge pressure from the government of Margaret Thatcher on the BBC, and on individual reporters like me about this - especially after the Brighton bombing, where she just escaped death and so many other innocent people were killed and injured.

That’s why people in Britain and right round the world, in huge numbers, watch, read and listen to what we say, every single day.
