mastodon’s official instance is mastodon.social lemmy’s official instance is lemmy.ml pixelfed’s official instance is pixelfed.social

what is peertube’s official instance? im looking to upload videos without the fear of my content getting deleted because the instance is closing. and i mostly prefer to use the official instances of fediverse enabled social networks.

i read about peer.tube on the faq, but signup is not available yet.

thanks.

There is no official instance. framatube.org is the instance running by their developers, but it’s by far not the largest.

You can get an overview at https://peertube.fediverse.observer/list about all existing instances, but PeerTube-instances are rather not general than in case of Mastodon or Lemmy.

If you want to be sure that your content will never be lost (and that means to be aware about the risk behind that on the other hand!), you should rather choice blockchain-based services like Odysee instead of federated services.

To avoid losing content on PeerTube, you can (home)seed your videos via BitTorrent-torrent clients that support WebSocket like BiglyBT or Webtorrent. So if an instance goes down, your content will still be available via P2P. But protection from depublication really isn’t a strength of PeerTube just like the rest of the Fediverse.

Anyway tube.tchncs.de I would trust mostly to stay for a very long time as these guys are Fediverse-enthusiast.

Why? Isn’t Odyssee a company? What if they go bust? The blockchain does nothing. It doesn’t store the videos, that’s for sure.

Then you are lucky and at least the content is no longer listed. The stuff remains on the LBRY network anyway, if I have understood how it works correctly.

It allows anyone to create an account and register content that cannot be deleted by the company.

On which server though? Video files are big, they’re not just “in the cloud”, they must be hosted somewhere. So either they go bust and someone else still has the videos and shares them, or not.

The LBRY-client is BitTorrent-based. Kinda like Sci-Hub going P2P, but automatically.

this doesn’t matter, as long as there isn’t another backup odysee that has all the videos or the users have them in their bittorrent programs they would still be lost. Not a huge problem, just a fact.

Also peertube also allows other servers to help with video hosting, which means the videos are mirrored on more than one server.

I thought it was full of anti-vaxers, SARS-Cov2-deniers and other alternative fact believers?

I’d associate those with “the right” but I guess the extremes are difficult to differentiate nowadays.
