I would rather they pay nurses properly and fund public healthcare. I can’t help but cynically interpret this as a “war chest” for a future re-election spending spree.

Precisely, it’s to help fuel something similar to the two Santa Claus conservative strategy (coined by Jude Wanniski: That the deficit can be managed while providing public services AND cutting taxes!

Cut taxes, spending and shortchange public services, state you are fiscally responsible then fund every project to the moon and back around election time once electors have forgotten all the shitty stuff they’ve done.

Precisely what the Manshitoba PC’s are doing right now. They’ve spent their entire mandate stripping public services to the bone, but now that it’s an election year, suddenly there’s an announcement every week of a new program for this and funding for that … and big surprise, most of them are token effort, lazily implemented chickenshit that will be abandoned and left to wither one second after the election.

I hope Manitobans aren’t this gullible, but the PC voter base has some real dumb, emotionally manipulable slackjaws.

Pay debt? Improve healthcare? Feed the hungry? House the homeless?

    Nah.

    Doug needs a donut fund.

Seriously, though, Is there any reasonable, legitimate reason for him to do this?

Clearly he needs to be able to send another few hundred dollars to every voter right before an election again…
