Cotler calls Nazi invite result of 'failure of indifference and inaction', supports unsealing Deschenes records

A former federal justice minister says the 'failure of indifference and inaction' over Canada's history with Nazis in the country likely contributed to Parliament's unknowing recognition of a Nazi veteran in the House of Commons last week, and that he wants to see nearly 40-year-old documents on suspected war criminals living in Canada unsealed.

    Didn’t Canada expel and revoke the citizenship of a hundred year old Nazi that had been living there for decades? If so, can’t they just do that again?

      It’s been a week for this guy. Went from being applauded for being a nazi to steps being taken to hold him accountable for his crimes.[1]

      But our institutions need to find the rest of them to hold them accountable.

      I think the real question is how many nazis there are in Canada and why the Canadian government won’t release this information to the public.

        @yogthos @OprahsedCreature
        Likely because majority of the government is occupied by them.

    What should he be prosecuted for exactly? This very article says that membership in the division, which was separate from the rest of the SS, was not in itself a war crime. I’ve not heard anybody claim that this guy in particular committed any crimes.

    I do agree the results of the commission should be made public, and if that reveals crimes that weren’t prosecuted then we should do so.

      You’re seriously trying to pretend that somebody who volunteered for this division isn’t a war criminal. That’s quite the hill you picked there buddy http://espritdecorps.ca/history-feature/whitewashing-the-ss-the-attempt-to-re-write-the-history-of-hitlers-collaborators
