Commenting on Lemmy posts and pretending Reddit doesn’t exist anymore.

Hanging out on Lemmy. Finding communities to replace the subreddits I used to frequent and creating ones when I can’t find them (hence this Lemmy community haha)

The whole situation is a little bittersweet. I deleted RIF from my phone this morning. For me, the 3PA thing is a piss off, but what really made up my mind to quit is the blatant disrespect from Reddit as a company. Like, I understand Reddit is a company and they’re out to make money, but they don’t actually create anything, y’know? Their whole business is making money off users either creating or sharing content and to turn around and basically shit on that, it’s certainly something else.

The blackout actually gave me the nudge to set lemmy.ca as my homepage and I’m really looking forward to spending more time around here. I’ve been feeling some amount of bitterness towards Reddit taking on more of what I dislike about other social media platforms for a few years now and I’m interested to hopefully see people rally to build an alternative.

If i can help in any way, let me know. Let’s get this going, it’s been far too long since we needed to break from Reddit as a comunity.

Made a Lemmy account this morning and now just exploring different communities and trying to find equivalent communities for my subscribed subreddits. Still getting used to how Lemmy works, but so far I’m really liking it!

I already had a love/hate relationship with Reddit. Or more accurately, the time I sink into browsing Reddit. So this is an interesting opportunity to try and shake loose of that. I expect I’ll end up back there in a couple days with everyone else, but perhaps I can cut down my list of subs and begin to broaden my browsing time to other sites, like this one.

I spent years as a top 100 mod, I quit last year and deleted my account realizing I was nothing more than a content slave. Just used my regular non-mod account after that. I came to realize how toxic that place is, and just deleted my Reddit account in solidarity with the subs not coming back. I’ve crossed the rubicon, I’m not going back to Reddit. Im spending the time to learn more about Lemmy and maybe see if I can get a server spooled up, or add capacity to lemmy.ca in some way. Im not sure how that all works if federations can assist other federations in capacity.

Find old games to emulate on my steam deck, Outrun 2006 and ICO on the PS2 seem good.
