Title + Why you like that client?
I am using eternity from some hours and my fav is liftoff.
Eternity, hands down the best,
open source = no ads or tracking
very cutomisable, smooth navigation, no major bugs. + supports older phones
For me it’s very buggy, although I still like it the most.
Does it mark read on scroll? I checked it out early but it seemed to lack that feature.
yes it does
I personally don’t use the feature, but I just tested it and it seems to work. How well, I don’t know; it would require more extensive usage.
In case you end up trying Eternity again, the setting is under preferences -> post history.
Thank you, I’ll give it another download and spin.
Boost just launched today. Loved it for Reddit
Boost gang!
Thats great news! I wonder if I have to buy it again.
The ad-supported free option is still there. But yeah, if you want premium, you’ll need to buy again.
The big turn off on eternity is that videos doesn’t play automatically (not sure its hidden inside the 100s of options to tweak the UI). Boost supports viewing videos directly.
Personally I use sync. I know it’s a touchy subject but it works flawlessly for me. I did buy the $20 no ads option so ads don’t affect me at all.
You don’t need to throw disclaimers, all FOSS bros need to understand that we can use whatever the heck we want, so they can.
Anyone can use whatever they want, ofc. But this is the opensource sub, lol
I used infinity for reddit, so naturally I switched to eternity.
There was a poll a week ago and it reached over 6000 votes. That won’t answer Why, but you get a general idea which clients people use.
That was before boost was released. I bet it’ll look different now.
Unless people value their data and won’t use boost
They’re using sync. I think that has the same issues
How liftoff is so far down on that list baffles me
Same here my fav client
I used Liftoff for quite a while. It just stopped working one day about 3-ish weeks ago. Couldn’t ever get it to work again. I might be an outlier, but if others had the same experience it may explain it.
It’s a good app, but it also hasn’t received an update in two months.
That’s a shame, well I guess I’ll keep using it till it stops working. Then I would probably be switching back to Eternity as I used to use Infinity
It needs to be updated to include Boost… maybe in a couple of weeks…
Thanks btw ur client
I’m using Eternity, because I used Infinity for Reddit before and it’s just the most familiar client for me.
Eternity, free and open source, but also because I’m used to Infinity when it was still cool.
Jerboa, because it just works and doesn’t overcomplicate things.
You can’t change the default comment sort though.
Jerboa It made by dev of lemmy. And it Minimal
When i tried it jerboa had all kinds of login issues, search didn’t always work great either
Otherwise is was a good app, so hopefully those things have improved
jerboa felt a bit rough around the edges in my opinion. it also decided one day that it had no interest in working on my phone anymore, so i was forced to switch. can’t say i would recommend it
I came from rif is fun and so I’m using Jerboa now. I don’t need a fancy UI, I need minimalism.
Sync by a country mile
Eternity, no doubt.
Switched from Liftoff and haven’t looked back.
Is it FOSS?
It sure is! Check it out.
Liftoff
Jerboah actually. Its the most complete, stable and looks very good. Used Thunder but it lacks features and is kinda buggy. I was hyped about Infinity, but I only really needed Infinity to have private subscriptions and multi accounts, which I dont have on Lemmy.
Jerboa doesn’t have proper search functionality.
So search by text? Is there an app that has it?
I mean its search is limited to finding communities and we can’t really search for posts, users or comments using keywords. Sadly, among FOSS apps only eternity has a decent search functionality but it’s still under development and lil buggy. Liftoff does categorize searches but doesn’t have the functionality of searching within communities. So far only Boost, Sync and Connect seem to have it and none of them is open source.
Very interesting! I will give Eternity another chance.
Boost - Mainly because is what I used on reddit
deleted by creator
Apparently that’s boilerplate supplied by Google for anything that uses their ad network, which boost does. That disclosure is mandatory for any country that falls under the GDPR umbrella. There’s a post from the developer explaining this over in the boost sub - Boost doesn’t collect this data, the admob network does. If you pay to remove ads admob isn’t even loaded.
Using Connect, it was the second app I tried during the time there were a lot of connection issues with Jerboa (the errors weren’t their fault, but they weren’t handled as gracefully as I would’ve liked at the time). No complaints really, so I’ve stuck with it.
