Yukon Insured Health Services expanded coverage in 2021 to include “comprehensive list of surgeries and other procedures” for the trans and gender diverse community, in accordance with WPATH standards.

“Last year, we expanded Yukon’s healthcare to cover surgeries and other procedures essential to gender transition. The new policy was recognized at that time as the most comprehensive health coverage for gender-affirming care in North America,” a government spokesperson told Global News.

To receive coverage, patients must have gender dysphoria and a referral from a mental health provider. A medical practitioner (including a nurse practitioner) can prescribe hormone therapy.

    I posted this on the Reddit equivalent and boy did I get a lot of haters saying we need fix healthcare system first and that transgender people shouldn’t get special treatment.

      Indeed, they shouldn’t get special treatment. That is, their health needs should be addressed just like anybody else’s, and not be discriminated against.

      Also getting a pregnant was choice on their end it’s not the some as how transgender people do not get the bone structure they deserve because they didn’t have access to hormones soon enough.

      What a bigoted comment.  Cisgender women can have children and do not have to face the same danger that transgender people have to face everyday because they do not pass as their expressed gender.
