The industry needs to stop launching games at $70, especially AA ones.
I have to say I don’t really mind that the series is finished. Played and tried to like both Outer Worlds games, but found their world, characters and general writing completely uninteresting. The satire was too much and too on-the-nose for me as well.
I enjoyed the first one enough to play through the whole way once, and play part way a few times after that. Like you said though. The writing was dull, and it seemed like they wanted it to be gritty, but funny, and the satire was too much. The writing was so weak that I didn’t even bother pirating the second one to see if I wanted to buy it. I think I might have chuckled once or twice on my first play through. And the rest of my runs, I just kinda zoned out of all the story stuff and shot things. The combat wasn’t amazing either.
Good.
Let that studio die. I’m tired of them pretending they’re some second coming of Jesus because they made fallout new Vegas. Yes we all liked kotor and while pillars wasn’t my thing, owlcats have them beat, it was well recived.
But either they can’t or simply won’t make a good game. Take whatever talent is left and start a smaller studio which doesn’t just rip Bethesda’s ideas.
OW is the most generic crap I had mis-pleasure of playing. It somehow made starfield stand out.
Pentiment isn’t perfect, but it shows there is still some talent, artistry and vision kicking around in Obsidian.
Yeah, hence I want them to make small new studio and make their own stuff.
Pillars show they can and want to.
They could have tried making it, I don’t know, good maybe? The writing in the sequel is even more on the nose and the 4th wall breaking stuff was démodé already a decade ago. The companions were annoying and completely underdeveloped. The setting was kind of great so I find it sad that with so much money they barely improved upon the original beyond moar guns and slightly bigger (emptier) maps.

I jad no idea they were behind Thomas the Tank Engine.
The first one was stupid, and I loved it. I never played the second one. I never felt the need to go back. I never even played the DLCs for the first one.
I did 100% the first one twice. I think I did it first on PC when I had one (happy Mac user now), and then I know the second time was on Xbox. So I mainly game on Xbox and Switch, but also do some lite Mac gaming (nobody buys a Mac for gaming, I just always wanted one since I was a kid and so I got one… then I got another one. I’d love to come back to PC gaming with a custom build when/if prices return to sanity, I’d really love to try Linux/SteamOS gaming with Proton).
I loved the first.
The second had none of the charm of it. It’s like they tried to copy what was cool rather than lean into themselves.
