The U.S. Government intends to force visitors to submit their digital history and DNA as the price of entry. With this much data AI tools will likely be deployed to unlock details of your life for border and immigration agencies.

More quotes:

The changes include:

All visitors must submit ‘their social media from the last 5 years’

ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) applications will include ‘high value data fields’, ‘when feasible’

  • ‘telephone numbers used in the last five years’
  • ‘email addresses used in the last ten years’
  • ‘family number telephone numbers (sic) used in the last five years’
  • biometrics – face, fingerprint, DNA, and iris
  • business telephone numbers used in the last five years
  • business email addresses used in the last ten years.

All these travellers will now have to use an app provided by CBP (‘CBP Home’) and an app for their ESTA application (‘ESTA Mobile App’). The ESTA website is being decommissioned.

The ‘CBP Home’ mobile app will be used by people to provide biometric proof of their departure, to ‘close the information gap’. The app will disclose the user’s location once they have left the U.S. and run a liveness detection on the selfie photo.

If approved, this policy would apply to all visitors who currently travel without a visa. For the estimated 14 million annual ESTA travellers, CBP thinks that this will take the average visitor 22 minutes to submit themselves and their family members.

A lot of people say that they have nothing to hide. What they don’t know or care about is that their data is connected to family and friends, so the more you provide the more information you are providing about people who haven’t consented.

Not only that but a visitor will have to submit their family members’ emails:

“If the proposed changes are adopted after the 60-day consultation, then millions of travellers to the U.S. will be forced to use a U.S. government mobile phone app, submit their social media from the last five years and email addresses used in the last ten years, including of family members. They’re also proposing the collection of DNA.”

Worse than I thought. I wonder how many people will ask before submitting family email addresses? Private mail servers and mail clients that support gpg encryption may make a comeback.

As part of my boycott the US movement I moved my domain to a .ca hosted on hosthero from a Wordpress blog. With that came my abandonment of my apple’s hide my email address, I had 40 some email addresses forwarding to my iCloud email address but with my dropping of that I have lost access to all those addresses and I have no idea what they where, but with my Hosthero plan I got an unlimitted email address package to replace it. I am currently at something more than 180 addresses and get no spam! Of those email addresses I have with my domain I have deleted many addresses that I do not remember. So if any family member asks me for my email addresses I get to say they are shit of luck.

Exactly. Just because you are private doesnt mean others are. We took photos at my job and they asked me if they could post pictures of me on Facebook.

I told them to kindly not do that.

You know the studio ghibli trend? I never made pictures of me doing it… but family has. My efforts are pointless.

I can barely remember my own phone number, the one I’ve used for about the last 20 years, now. They want me to remember all the phone numbers of all my family spread out literally around half the world, people who I maybe telephone once every seven months, for the past five years?

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! And all y’all elected these motherfuckers in!

(Also, who uses EMAIL anymore!? Seriously!? The only thing my email account does is accumulate spam that gets duly deleted by automated tools. I can count the number of actual emails I’ve sent and/or received in the past six months on one hand.)
