Archaeologists keeping schtum about what it is, gonna make a good time team episode!
Time team continues on YouTube for those that don’t know, but isn’t quite the same
Even archeologists are doing clickbait and “announcement of an announcement” these days 😅
Such a tease! I won’t pretend to be an expert on neolithic Orcadian architecture by any means, but the bit about the straight lines and rectangular forms is clearly significant. As I understand it there’s an ongoing discussion about whether the two material cultures known from this period (Unstan ware and grooved ware) coexisted or if the grooved ware evolved out of the Unstan ware. Maybe this find has some clues towards that?
I suspect a broch, as they aren’t straight
The opposite of that, surely? They’re saying it’s rectangular
I think brochs are actually quite significantly too recent for this site, though. They’re primarily an iron age thing, while the other structures at Ness of Brodgar are a good couple of thousand years even older than that
Could be a hint of a hint or anti-hint? Maybe a proto-broch?
Could be! I suppose we’ll find out some time next summer
