He doesn’t look very fluffy for a typical black/grey squirrel. I’d worry he’s got mange.

Definitely not a rat, I see this friend everyday and they are living their best squirrel life!
At first I thought so too, but without the hair squirrels and rats look very similar. After looking at pics in the web (not for the faint hearted), I think the big front arms are squirrel for sure.
Head kinda big. Not sure how rare black rats are either.
