From the late 1960s until 1992, Danish authorities forced around 4,500 Inuit women, around half of all those of child-bearing age, to wear a contraceptive coil — or intrauterine device (IUD) — without their consent.

Wow this is a pretty racist program that went on into the 90s? Shame on you Denmark.

Agreed, but funny coming from a ca instance with the Canadian indigenous boarding schools famously continuing into the 90s as well.

It’s about time that we (Danes) take responsibility for the incident, not only by apologizing, but also by giving reparations.

On Monday, she also announced the creation of a “reconciliation fund” to compensate the victims, as well as other Greenlanders who suffered discrimination because of their Inuit heritage.

      Looks like it.

Thanks for digging that up! I could have sworn that part wasn’t in the article when I read it earlier today.

    around half of all

    Crazy. By which critetia?

Chemnitz said the apology was a direct result of Trump’s assertive statements about taking over Greenland.

First of all, that’s sad. There was the entire Canadian native saga not long ago. Why not use that opportunity to come clean with authenticity?

Maybe Trump can get the Nobel peace prize for that? (/s) At least with that knowledge, his suggestion doesn’t sound that wild anymore.
