    Shout out to Cassette Beasts. Just and overall wonderful game for anyone who enjoys the monster battler genre. Great music, novel setting, solid story, and plenty of room for emergent gameplay stemming from the ability to hotswap abilities and the chance for “bootleg” monsters with different types than normal.

      I can confirm! Cassette Beasts is one of my favourites, possibly the best Monster Taming game out there. The art direction is absolutely gorgeous, the music is amazing, the overall polish and attention to detail is extremely satisfying.

      I also like their take on the strategic side, opting for buffs and debuffs and varying interactions between types instead of the simpler super effective / not very effective mechanic

    Digimon World DS. It had the fun speed stat mechanic where a sufficiently high one let your mons have multiple turns in a row.

    That demo for time stranger was pretty great so that one’s probably going to by my answer mext month.

      Also love that one! It’s one of the first I’ve played on the DS back in the day. Tho I never realized that the multiple turns were due to the speed mechanic, that’s actually a really cool thing to have. Wonder if there are more monster taming games that do this.

      Have you seen the absolute spam about Digimon Story Time Stranger on Ed’s channel? He got the demo and the game early and is going absolutely wild with content on it, it’s crazy

      Hi there :)

      Just a quick notice: while I have absolutely nothing agains AO games and content (and comments related to those subjects), I think we would all benefit if this space was a safe place for non-adult people as well.

      But don’t worry, your comment is fine and won’t be removed or anything like that. But it made me realize that’s something I need to take into account and figure out when building this space.

      I’m still figuring out how this works here on Lemmy. Maybe there’s a way we could tag our comments as 18+, so only people with the proper setting would see it? If someone there already knows how all this works, would I appreciate any help or guidance on that front
