I’m considering closing and redirecting [email protected] and [email protected]. They haven’t seen much activity in months/years. Usually, people just post in the ask/asklemmy communities and indicate which group of people they want answers from.

There is also fairly active [email protected] but I’m not sure about beehaw’s current federation status with the big instances.
I’ll add it to the list, I’m not sure if I should also add a note about federation or if that will just be more confusing for new users
Good point. You could add something less technical, like in parenthesis: (possibly available) or something.
Then again someone could also have trouble accessing e.g the link to lemmy.ml if their instance puts predefined instance blocks to new accounts like lemmy.zip does.
No mention at all could also be confusing. What about a general: (access to above communities depends on your own instance. Not all of them are necessarily available to your instance) ?

Having an open community without any posts in the last few months gives a potential new joiner the impression that the platform is just empty. Multiply that by the number of communities they encounter which are in a similar stage and they just leave to never come back.
On the other hand, seeing a locked community with “community locked for now, here’s an active alternative” points the potential new joiner to the active community, which shows them that this place indeed has some activity.
ooh… that makes sense. I will lock it down, but where should i direct them to? There was a stupid question community in lemmee i think, but now that is no more, so not sure what should be the best option. maybe normal ask communities, but they do not feel right.
