Kinda hilarious someone blurred out his license plate but the cyclist reads it out and that was left in.
Broad censorship can die, but personal protection is a good thing, usually. Hopefully this leak didn’t result in much.
This is bad design. If a bike path is large enough for a car to get on it and it is next to a road with bad traffic design that holds up cars you should be able to anticipate someone will create a problem. So you should add some vertical columns in the center. Not very many of them because that’s a nucence. Obviously a clear trail is preferable. But two or three polls will make this a non-issue.
Wild seeing police do anything constructive.
They’re not US police. That’s probably why the video didn’t end in everyone getting shot.
UK police can be absolute shits too. Policing as a profession can attract people who absolutely should not have power over others, and the culture within the police can promote pretty fucked up attitudes in ppreviously decent people; it’s qualitatively the same pernicious problems that we see in the US, albeit to a much milder degree.
General condemnation of the police aside, I’m glad to see how this particular incident was handled.
Actually, shortly after the recording was stopped some vacationing US cops heard an acorn drop nearby and shot 2 cyclists and one UK officer
Naturally. What else would you expect?
He smacked the cyclist with his car, twice, on purpose, while in a bike labe he drove into, also on purpose.
If this was Denmark he’d lose his car and the license to even own one.
He should lose his life. He threatened to kill him TWICE with his vehicle while he was in the wrong and actively breaking the law, he has no right to live. Hang him and throw him in a trash heap
Ah, an American.
He doesn’t need a ticket. They should seize his car and sell it and take his license forever.
This. Maybe only take the license for a few months and make him do a new test. The fact he argues shows his disregard for the rules he agreed to follow by operating the a
dangerous weaponvehicleI’m thinking the appropriate punishment is being drawn and quartered…except between four cybertrucks.
ChatGPT gone wrong.
I don’t understand why he didn’t get a U-lock in the teeth. Honestly, though, he’s attacking cyclists with his car, and he got to leave completely uninjured and with no damage to his vehicle.
Then the cyclist gets hit with an assault charge. Police response looked prompt and legally correct from the video, so absolutely the right call to handle it completely legally.
Cyclist was struck (iirc) three times while bystanders witnessed and shouted at him. At this time there was no indication there would be timely police intervention. I’m not advocating, I’m just finding it surprising. If it was one skater getting attacked in front of other skaters, by a dude driving in a skate park, I feel like there would be a set of trucks through that window.
Assault with a deadly weapon. The driver should get charged.
To the UK’s credit, police will prosecute drivers using video evidence, so “CyclingMikey” does this stuff all day long.
But… He has to go to work, you guys. SMH my fucking head.
You’re shaking your head your fucking head?
damn right
What other kind of head would you shake?
Buy me a drink first, tiger.
Nice. The word “fucking” here isn’t an adjective, it’s a verb.
You can say fuck, the fucking fucker’s fucked
People sometimes say SMH like this for emphasis. Another one I’ve seen is “SMHing my SMH”. It’s not meant to be literal. It’s similar to when an acronym becomes its own word, like ATM machine.
ATM ain’t an acronym. Neither is SMH.
They are both acronyms.
No. Acronyms are words, it’s in the “nym” part. Initialisms where you pronounce each letter individually are not acronyms, since they ain’t words.
Sorry, that’s not correct. Acronym is the word we use for both when it forms a word and for an initialism. They are all acronyms. Perhaps next you’ll tell me that decimate means reduce by ten percent?
Ah, the “language evolves” defence. How come everytime it evolves it’s in the less useful direction?
@[email protected] is right.
An acronym is a word formed from the initial letters of other words and pronounced as a single word.
An abbreviation is a shortened version of a word or phrase used to save time and space, avoid repetition, or follow convention.
All acronyms are abbreviations, but not all abbreviations are acronyms.
SMH and ATM are both abbreviations. NASA, radar, laser etc. are all acronyms.
HIV virus.
Exactly! It’s similar to that kind of thing.
ATM machine
😰
I don’t know what that emoji means, sorry. Have you never encountered this before? Acronyms sometimes transition into their own words that are divorced from the original meaning.
ATM originally meant automated teller machine, but after it took on its own separate word identity, people started adding in machine. It’s weird If you know the original acronym, but it’s a natural phenomenon.
It’s a weird fucking acronym. I have never in my life hear a person actually say “shaking my head” but apparently some people say it SO FUCKING MUCH that I was seeing “SMH” for ten years before I even knew what it meant.
What is this criminal class we allowed to fester!? We need to report all of these scum, don’t let any get away!
Classic entitlement and ego. In different scenarios, Darwinism would remove the drivers genes from the gene pool
There’s no justifiable reason for the driver to still be allowed to drive, the only reasonable consequence for these actions is the permanent loss of their drivers license
According to the original video posted elsewhere on this thread, he got fined a whopping £140.
£50 for driving like a twat, and £90 for trying to run the cameraman over.
Being drunk at the wheel is about the only sure fire way to lose your license in the UK.
I just saw an article about Emma Watson losing her license because of speeding?
She did a lot of speeding. And lost her license for 6 months.
As a comparison my missus has been driving since Emma was in the first movie and has one speeding fine and no points on the license because it was by such a small amount.
this is so foreign to me. 38mph in a 30, and 3 points and license lost (due to a previous 9 point total)
in Canada, going 63 in a 50 km/h zone is the expectation. you will never get a ticket for that, let alone pulled over, other than automated speed cameras (which are clearly warned about in advance and identifiable)
I wish we stuck to the rules like that. don’t make it a 50 if you’re not going to enforce it - it’s a false sense of safety
If people are routinely speeding, the road is too wide.
For sure, I-88 in upstate New York is the road that always gets me. So straight and wide, great visibility,no traffic, very little population, towns are few and far between, built for speed. It’s painful to hold to the limit, painful to hold to my standard +8. Even worse, it was 55mph for the longest time.
And I’m sure highways in the Midwest are much worse
You would actually lose your license in germany over such behaviour. You may get it back, but you need to convince a psychologist beforehaned that you’ve got your temper under control.
In Germany you can go 122km/h in a 50km/h zone, kill three people while doing so and permanently cripple a fourth one, and still you get your driver’s license back just like that, because you claim that you need a car for work: https://www.tz.de/muenchen/stadt/rentner-fuhr-drei-franzosen-tot-doch-kriegt-fuehrerschein-zurueck-zr-91815963.html
In the same article it references a guy who tried to escape the police while being high on cocaine and alcohol and killed a 14yo by running him over. He was sentenced for murder, but also got his license back after 5 years.
You can run a red light in a 40 ton truck and kill a pedestrian right in front of his wife, and you can just keep your driver’s license without restrictions, because “nobody would benefit from putting the truck driver out of work”: https://archive.is/W59hd
Germany is certainly not a good example for that kind of stuff. Germany is the carbrain capitol of Europe.
Damn… The more I hear about stuff like this the more I like the Danish police and traffic laws… They certainly aren’t perfect, but man is most of the rest of the world a shit show when it comes to that.
In Denmark 3 km/h above the limit can get you a ticket. 30% above will get you a “point” to your drivers license and a much larger fine. 60% above and you will immediately lose your license and a large fine or potentially prison.
A “point” stays on your license for 3 years, and it you get 6 cuts, you lose your license.
I haven’t heard of anyone keeping their license “because they needed it”… You just have to bike, or take public transport.
You also get a point for many other offenses, such as using a handheld phone, crossing on red, tailgating, driving the wrong way, or many other things.
The first 3 years after getting your license, the limit is lower at 4 points, and if you lose your license and get a new license the limit is only 3 points.
In Germany it really depends on the ethnicity of the driver. Law enforcement and the courts will be much more lenient towards ethnic Germans
Proper action right here. I wish the states took away drivers licences for road rage like this.
sadly true, I could see US cops taking the “well you’re both wrong” tact instead of punishing the one who actually broke the laws.
No you don’t, there are ample examples of people keeping their license despite killing someone. A guy from my school got killed. He crossed the street on green, the cars had red. Some idiot sped over the red light, must have been way faster than 50. Guy was immeditely dead. Idiot kept his driving license because the poor poor guy needed it.
Best I can do is a ticket this Mercedes owner wont even notice /s
A Mercedes driver being a cunt? Wow, never seen that before 🤣
At least he used his indicators, which is a minor miracle. Here’s the original video on CyclingMikey’s YouTube channel!
I love his calm and simple approach to calling out dangerous behaviour from motorists.
His calmness, actually, ensured that the driver was immediately identified as the perpetrator without any “let’s see what the bloody cyclist has done now”
Man, I wouldn’t have been able to stay that calm. That comes from years of practice in dealing with these knobs. I would have been sorely tempted to grab that door and yank it forwards, which would only make matters worse.
It’s even more impressive when you learn his father was killed by a careless driver.
Thank you for posting the original. If you hadnt I would have had a hunt and done it myself.
As a general request can ppl post original videos without shitty tick tok music bollocks?
Thank you for finding/posting a version without shitty music that makes it harder to hear what people are saying.
I’m always ambivalent. Yeah he’s right, and those drivers need to be called out, and traffic enforcement clearly isn’t doing anything … but he’s being stubborn, risking his life, when the guy is only getting a small ticket. You know he’s just going to be ragier next time. Here in the US I can’t see it going that well
Good thing they’re not in an undeveloped backwater piece of shit country like the US
This wasn’t even a one off. This guys video channel was just him waiting for this to happen and it happened very frequently. I do remember seeing several where the police weren’t really that supportive (probably as, though it made a point it was basically planned confrontation for video views).
Damn, that’s pretty hardcore. When I was watching the above video, I thought “he’s perhaps a bit stupid to put himself in harms way like that and to draw the ire of assholes, but also he seems like he knows how dangerous it is and thus I gotta respect him for his resolve”. Learning that he does this often caused me to think the same thought, but an order of magnitude stronger. What a silly, principled badass. I hope that some day, people like him won’t feel it necessary to resort to vigilantism.
This guys video channel was just him waiting for this to happen
Good.
See, that’s the point where my sympathy evaporates. As soon as you set out to trap the desperate, you’re nothing more than a predator.
Edit: Ooh, kicked the nest! Sorry folks, but if this were a pedestrian stopping cyclists from illegally mounting the pavement I suspect there’d be a different tune (I am a pedestrian who routinely has to deal with shitty cyclists mounting the pavement to skip traffic, or lights, when I’m on my way to work).
Oh cut the bullshit. He took his car on a non-car pathway.
There’s no “trapping” here, all people have to do to not show up on his chan is follow basic fuckin’ road laws. This is the same sort of whinge that claims speed cameras are traps.
I’m going to guess they might not show up on the channel if, when confronted, they went “Oh I fucked up. Sorry.” and safely remedied the situation.
The desperate lol, you mean people intentionally breaking the law in their car?
Removed by mod
Well I’m pretty sure a bike cannot be illegally impeding a driver in the bike lane where they have no legal right to be.
Blocking a vehicle from going the wrong way and potentially hurting someone is not the same as blocking someone for no reason.
The guy in a Mercedes who is breaking the law because he’s an angry asshole just needs to be stopped.
Removed by mod
Haha “the desperate” is what you call entitled shitasses who can’t drive properly?
A “predator” who keeps drivers from driving in the bike lanes forcing them to… hit people with cars and threaten them with their fists instead of simply turning around and following the law.
the desperate
A yes the poor desperate Mercedes drivers trying to vehicular manslaughter someone for being stubborn (but right)
A cyclist would leave that part of the pavement and continue biking. I’m guessing that they also wouldn’t try hitting people with their bike which also doesn’t pay 2 tons.
set out to trap the desperate
Me when I put on the striped thigh highs and Amazon skirt
* The impatient
Disagree with the first bit. They have a chance to make a little bit of positive change, and they do. Good on them.
Super feel you on the last bit though. Happens at least once a day to me. I even have some low level chronic pain from a cyclist hitting me a few years back. I really wish the anti car community was ready to address this problem.
Conclusion: like, both are bad. Just because the latter is bad and there’s many apologists for the latter doesn’t mean it’s not right to call out car drivers for this egoistical behavior. Even those who don’t realise that both are bad (there’s many of them, I know) are your allies in this. How’d you feel if a pedestrian managed to get a cyclist prosecuted for this behavior? Would you see them as a predator?
I really wish the anti car community was ready to address this problem.
What do you think pushing for separate infrastructure for cyclists is, if not that? Nobody wants to ride on a sidewalk trying to dodge pedestrians; it happens when cyclists are forced off the street by drivers and have nowhere else to go.
Removed by mod
Both things they mentioned: cars using the bike lane and cycles using the sidewalk to skip traffic illegally
Removed by mod
Yo, not what I’m saying. The person in the video didn’t manufactor a dangerous situation, the driver created it and the filmer called it out and shames the driver publicly. It’s the only way some people learn, so, good on the filmer. Next time you get endangered by a cyclist on the sidewalk, feel free to do the same.
I was hoping the cyclist would lose his balance and fall on the hood of the car when he was rammed. Not that I want the cyclist injured, of course, but damage to the precious car? I’m all for that.
I had a road rage incident while I was out riding yesterday - I was in the middle of the lane passing some pedestrians. Note, this is a country road, and there’s no sidewalk or even shoulder. It’s a pretty popular cycling route, but it’s the first time I’ve seen people walking there (I’m not even sure where they were going). Some jackass rolled up right behind me and blew the horn, as I was next to the pedestrians. I gave the “what the hell” gesture, then after I passed the pedestrians, I moved closer to the right edge of the lane, and he swerved over to run me off the road.
Set a few PRs after that incident. lol Later, the rear derailleur cable broke, and I got rained on, so the end of the ride was less great than the rest of it (which was a pretty good ride aside from those incidents).
