They only trust themselves and it’s kinda hard to install cyberware on yourself unless you already have something like Doc Oc’s tentacle arms installed.
The most knowledgeable IT people have the least IOT devices in their house.
Eh. I’m pretty deep in IT but have a boatload of IoT. Though I admit the few that are WiFi enabled are mostly blocked from internet access.
If you’re technically minded, you can do some amazing things with Home Assistant and IOT devices.
Haha that’s exactly what I do. 99% is local, the 1% is either “off site” in such a way it can’t be moved local, or I’m moving it to a local solution when possible.
I’m not particularly knowledgeable about IT but I avoid IoT like the plague. Everything should run locally and if I want to control it from away I’ll use a VPN to home.
That doesn’t include bt does it? I try to keep the things that connect to the internet to a minimum. Computer, phone, tablet, steam deck.
A lot depends on how you use it and how accessible it is to the outside internet.
I have a few smart devices, but they are all controlled locally. If my internet connection stops working, I still have full control of everything. I also have manual options in case my home network stops working.
Not advice, do your own research: I don’t see a big problem it Bluetooth. It can be hacked, but the person hacking has to be near you. That alone protects you from about 8 billion people.
Choom, you gotta remember any Edgerunner know they’re gonna flatline young.
Most people get chipped to perform their job, which is basically to barely survive a corpo life. Some have chrome for medical reasons. Most people don’t wanna be a chrome jock anyway, with cyberpsychosis and all.
Also, ripperdocs are the closest thing to medical attention proles can afford. And I suspect with the jack they make they can afford actual medical care.
It’s like how IT people don’t trust printers.
Yeah those get put on the no internet access network.
I laughed, you laughed, the printer laughed. I shot the printer so the hacker just pivoted to the smart thermostat.
Do you know someone who does trust printers?
Suckers and normies
If I can’t install it myself I ain’t getting it. All those other Rippers are third rate hacks I wouldn’t trust to chip a fucking corpse choomba.
Aren’t they actually third rate hacks in universe and install whatever with close to zero clue on what they actually doing?
My understanding of the actual tabletop lore is that basically for every decent ripper you’re likely to encounter as a player there’s easily a dozen that are like what you describe.
…is that where they get the ripper part of their title?
Nah I assume that’s from the part of the job where they rip old bits out to put shiny new chrome in.
They know to never use from your own supply. They know the downsides and admit openly that organics remain more reliable.
The one ripper i recall that did have chrome only did because she was attacked by a customer who chopped of her arm.
One ripper says the electronic device are of course prone to EMPs and a giant solar flare.
I think the ripper across the road from where you get ping (could be wrong) says basically this (paraphrasing) yes you have sword arms, but when you replace the organic arm, the mechanical one doesn’t have as good wiring. The effect may not be noticeable with single “upgrades” but definitely can feel the difference over time
But I can get my arms back if I remove all my arms cyberware
you get someones arms back anyway
