Someone made a post with a picture of a blonde haired blue eyed child. The title was “Would you slap this child for 88 million dollars?”

I said “Slap!?!?? I would eat that child’s still beating heart for 88 million dollars.”

Next day I log in to find out I had been temp banned for 7 days for sexualization/abuse of a minor.

I uninstalled Reddit. That was 11 days ago and I haven’t been back. Context is important. Obviously, no one is going to offer me 88 million dollars to eat a child’s heart. Not to mention, do you really want to make deals with people that can offer that to you? I mean, I wouldn’t.

All this has led me to realize. I don’t want to be part of a community with no sense of humor.

I would post a link but not only was my comment deleted. The thread was too I think.

I didn’t say that: First, I don’t regularly see Nazis on reddit, second, it’s nearly impossible to take the term “Nazi” at face value anymore, especially from pearl-clutching emotionally frantic seeming types such as yourself, third if there were Nazis and they threatened someone, they should be banned. Rules are rules. You don’t get to threaten people…even if you don’t like them. Reddit is terrible, and bans people over nothing, but in your case, you clearly broke (a reasonable) rule and you got banned. The end.

Obviously, you won’t see them unless you browse communities that actively harboured them.

Calling “nazi” impossible to take seriously is pretty funny, given this exact same thing is used by right-tards and “enlightened” centrists, to quickly shut off any conversation and to defend the indefensible

Call it Nazi, Neo-nazi, far-right, it does not matter. If you harbour racist, transphobic, homophobic or other hateful views, what other response do you want for it? Debating them does not work. They do not argue in good faith. Removing them from the conversation entirely is the way to go. Because surely we talked to the nazis in WW2, right? “UwU, pwease don’t kill any more innocent people.” No.

If you let the intolerant in your tolerant society, guess what will happen.

So please, do call me emotionally frantic pearl clutching for not wanting my friends murdered for being gay or trans or black. It honestly says more about you than me.

I’m in a minority that Nazis want killed, so don’t lecture me on what is the appropriate course of action. Essentially it seems your argument is “I went looking for Nazis and I found them, then I broke the rules and I want immunity” It doesn’t seem to different from what the Nazis themselves say. Your problem isn’t with fascism, it’s that you aren’t the one at the top of it.

…and yes, all your wild conjecture about me does seem emotionally frantic and pearl-clutching, and makes you and others like you incredibly hard to take seriously, and so, in fact…I don’t.

Based on who you think deserves it, solely to your discretion according to what you think about their internet comments

…and you already admitted sending threats to someone. sound the EXACT kind of person these rules are meant to protect from. You are not righteous and I stand by my statement that you should have been banned.

I once created a LPT post about how rotating different shampoos can help prevent your body from developing tolerance (this is still a great LPT by the way; if you have dandruff or some other bodily condition like dry skin and your shampoo or lotion loses efficacy over time, try buying a few different types and rotating your usage so you don’t develop tolerance). Aaaanyway, my post got deleted for being “medical advice.” Reddit kids are the worst.

    Fuck Reddit.

I got banned once for saying that a drug cartel head honcho deserved the death penalty (or something like that, I don’t recall the details). This was after a story where a bunch of people in Mexico or some South American country were found murdered in some gruesome ways and the head honcho was caught but then escaped. You can’t escape if you’re dead.

So someone on Reddit was offended because I said that a drug cartel kingpin who had dozens (or maybe hundreds) of murders under his belt should be removed from the gene pool. And then to make things worse, some moron Reddit agreed eith them.

    Fuck Reddit.

I read about a similar situation recently … a thread where people were joking around about NSFW stuff and someone commented “that guy must be hung” (as in “big member”) and got suspended for hate speech / inciting violence because the mod apparently thought they meant “go hang that guy” (as in execute).

So yes, context matters greatly, especially when dealing with snarky comments and reactions to shitposts, where people usually aren’t as serious.

That’s not a Reddit thing, you’ll find Lemmy mods here who would ban you for less. And probably elsewhere too.

I find the topic itself dumb honestly, so garbage in, garbage out. If anything, if I were a mod I’d remove the OP, unless the sub is for stupid topic, in which case they can’t complain about stupid answers. Again, not Reddit specific.

Honestly that’s pretty bad compared to some of the times I got banned over the years. I got banned once for pointing out that a post about not wanting to talk to men about feminism was toxic and detrimental to spreading understanding of ideas. The mods of some of the subs will just ban you for saying something is illogical.

This is my second temporary ban. I have a similar username on Reddit. A couple of people were saying that I was a trash human for having this username. So I told one of them “I love you. I unironically hope you have a long and happy life. I hope that all the good things happen to you.”

      That apparently is harassment.

Well, it’s weird how each religion chose to interact with me. I have had that account for over 6 years. So, I’ve had quite a bit of experience.

The Muslims were interesting. Mostly, I would get a private message, and someone would politely ask if I would change my name. This happened like 4 or 5 times. They would explain that they found my username offensive, and explain how it wasn’t ok, but in the end would just say it was my choice and go away.

The slightly more serious Muslims would send me a private message to tell me that someone would be relieving me of my head. They would unleash a tirade calling me something horrible. That only happened like 2 times I think.

Christians on the other hand are usually content to pay me no mind. But, when they do feel froggy it’s always very public and more like getting ganked. Several show up it’s a whole thing.

But, I try to avoid those situations. I’m old by internet standards. I really try to spend most of my time. Sharing my old person knowledge and generally trying to be helpful.

I originally made this username as a joke, because my partner took my other username and filled it with porn subs.

I used to mod some big subs and saw one of the dumbest ways the admins banned someone.

So one of the mods I knew posted a video of a picture containing a microwave with Alvin & The Chipmunks photoshopped in. The video had audio of a microwave turned on with high pitched screaming too.

    https://youtu.be/MsJCTNvPZVM?si=66xVCf1ho13mIzbN

That 14 second video he posted on a sub he modded got the admins to permanently ban him across Reddit and then refuses to ever reply to him when he asked why. It was perfectly acceptable for that subreddit too.

Hell I even started a conversation with some admins for some other issues and asked them about it. They ignored that question completely lol.

I don’t regret leaving that site. I do regret modding big subs tho lmao.

Most of spacedicks was just stupid stuff (and I think one or two actual space dicks) last time I looked. It was the kind of sub you’d browse once for the laughs and then never have any urge to go back unless someone linked to it. And the warnings were waaaaaayyyy overdone, to the point that when it got banned I remember being shocked that anyone would genuinely be offended by it.

I’ll never understand it, lol. But now I don’t have to, so there’s that. Couldn’t pay me to go back now.

I got perma-banned for pointing out that if we wanted to find out if ancient execution methods worked there were plenty of child molesters around.

Literally the next day their was a huge thread at the top of the technology subreddit saying all kinds of shit like that about printer company executives. I appealed asking what the difference was and all I got back was a canned response. I checked a few days later and all the comments on that thread were still there.

The only conclusion I can make from this is that Reddit wants to be a safe space for child molesters specifically which seems pretty sus to me.

This filter makes for the worst combination at the magic the gathering subr. With the kind of people who get over competitive and complicated about low ELO magic, finding the ones who want to be internet police really leaves the dreggs in charge.
