Dear gods… he can’t build it either way. It is simply not possible with current technology. Israel’s Iron Dome system only needs to protect an area the size of New Jersey against much lower tech rockets and projectiles. Trump’s plan, and I use the term loosely, would cost anywhere from half a trillion dollars to $2.5 trillion and will not be effective.
This is just a grift that will let him pour those trillions of dollars into the pockets of his rich buddies, who will no doubt need to pay him in advance for the contracts.

Golden Dome is a space-based system that intercepts ICBMs in their boost and mid-course phases. It’s a global missile defense system with or without the help of other countries.
It’s nothing but a pipe dream at this point, and ground bases will still be necessary.

The inclusion of Canada is primarily to spread out costs as such a system could also intercept missiles going to any country, not just the US.
